News from San Antonio

Combination Therapy reduces HER2 positive breast cancers: A combination of lapatinib, trastuzumab and paclitaxel significantly improved tumor response rates than either agent alone among patients with HER2-positive breast cancers, according to data presented at the 33rd Annual CTRC-AACR San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.

Drop in DCIS & Invasive BC Rates Tied to Hormone Therapy Decline

In a new study of more than 2 million mammogram screenings performed on nearly 700,000 women in the United States, scientists from the University of California, San Francisco for the first time show a direct link between reduced hormone therapy and declines in ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) as well as invasive breast cancer. The researchers saw such a striking decrease, they believe they also have uncovered indirect evidence that hormones promote breast tumor growth.

Greetings!

Happy 2011. I hope you had a nice holiday season filled with good health, family and friends. January has always been a slow month for me, which is nice after the hurried pace starting with Thanksgiving and continuing through December. For me, it's a time to reflect on the previous year and what the coming year might have in store for me. My son is a Junior in high school so I know that this year will be busy searching for colleges, going through the application process and finally receiving acceptances and/or regrets from the schools he applies to. Needless to say, there will be A LOT of stress in my house this year!

Pink-Link has a new corporate partner! Perform Pain Relief ran a special in-store program during the month of December to raise money for Pink-Link. Perform is manufactured by the same company that produces BioFreeze and is a topical pain reliever for temporary relief of minor aches and pains.

If you are a young survivor (diagnosed under the age of 45), you might be interested in attending the Young Survival Coalition's annual conference, C4YW from February 25-27 in Orlando, FL. I will be exhibiting there and would love to meet you!

I will also be attending the Complimentary and Alternative Cancer Therapy conference hosted and organized by Annie Appleseed from March 3-5 in West Palm Beach, FL. Let me know if you will be attending and we can arrange a meeting.

Finally, I'd like to thank everyone who gave an end of year donation to Pink-Link. We really appreciate the support in continuing our mission of helping survivors across the US!

I hope you're feeling well and empowered!

Sincerely,

Victoria Tashman
