For the past week, I've been in the mood for some Chicken Soup. Let me preface this by telling you that my 100 year old grandma died at the beginning of this month. She lived here in Los Angeles, and I was the only member of my family that lived close enough to visit her regularly. So, I saw her every other Sunday and sat with her until it was time for bingo. During my breast cancer treatment 6 years ago, she had a stroke and lost the use of her throat and tongue. She was put on a feeding tube and accepted her fate. She woke up every morning, got out of bed, put on makeup and a nice outfit and was ready to start the day. She got her hair and nails done once a week and had physical therapy every day. When I would visit, she would try so hard to talk to me, sometimes I understood and sometimes I didn't. But she always understood when I mouthed "I love you" and she would mouth it back. My good friend Patti came to the funeral and emailed me her recipe for
Chicken soup. "Comfort food,' she said, "works wonders." Thanks Patti!
Next month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and there's lots of events, seminars and conferences going on across the US. I've posted some of them on the
Pink-Link Announcements page, but if you know of one in your area that should be listed, please respond to this email. Make sure there's a website that I can refer to.
I love reading MORE Magazine and in their July/August issue, they had an article entitled,
"The Healthy Breast Diet." I thought it was very interesting and wanted to share it with you.
Lastly, at my synagogue's Rosh Hashanah services at the beginning of the month, our Rabbi read an inspiring story about
overcoming adversity. I thought it was very appropriate as you might be going through your own adverse situation today.
I hope you have a wonderful month and are feeling well and empowered!
