Broccoli and Breast Cancer
A compound derived from broccoli could help prevent or treat
breast cancer by targeting cancer stem cells - the small number of cells that
fuel a tumor's growth - according to a new study from researchers at the
University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Metastasis Increases After Progestin Hormone Therapies
After menopause,
6 to 10 million
women take hormone therapies, which are often a combination of estrogen
and progestin, to replace hormones lost from inactive ovaries. Progestin
is a hormone that is used to counteract the potentially negative
effects of estrogen therapy on the uterus. In studies sponsored by the
National Institutes of Health, evidence has been found that estrogen and
progestin in hormone therapies increase the risk of breast cancer in
post-menopausal women. Now, a
University of
Missouri study has
found that progestins can also increase the chance of the cancer
metastasizing, or spreading to the lymph nodes. Continue reading

Greetings!
Welcome June! My son is almost finished with 10th grade and my daughter is now a "Junior" in college! This school year has gone so fast for me, but I love summer and can't wait to get it going! I have 2 trips planned, both out of the country, to celebrate milestones in my family. I know it's going to be a great summer.
We had our Tea Party fundraiser at the end of May and it was a huge success! We raised almost $10,000 to fund our community outreach program. There are too many people to thank in this email, but I did want to highlight a couple of them. First of all, a HUGE thank you goes out to Laurie and Mark Rosenthal and Raleigh Studios who donated their facilities to host our event. It was the perfect venue and turned out simply lovely. Peter and Juan at Agraria get a BIG hug from me for attending the event, setting up their beautiful display of products and donating 50% of each sale to Pink-Link. I recently received their check for $1,100! I also want to thank our board of directors and volunteers who stepped up and helped before, during and after the event. I couldn't have done it without you! And, finally, I want to thank all the companies who donated raffle prizes for our selective raffle. You can view a list of the prizes and website addresses for each company.
My friend, Ellen Rudolph at the Life Cycle Health Center, sent me a link to an article about acupuncture enhancing anti-cancer immune functions. It's an interesting article and I wanted to pass it along to you.
UCLA hosted its annual Cancer Survivorship Day on May 8th. If you'd like to read some of the presentation, please click here. I'd also like to announce that we have a new sponsor, Perform Pain Reliever, an all-new, external analgesic that puts your pain on ice...
naturally!.
I hope you have a wonderful June and beginning to your summer!
Sincerely, Victoria Tashman Pink-Link

Congratulations! You survived breast cancer. This should be a time to
celebrate--so why do you feel so empty and alone? Medical professionals
prepare you for surgery and other treatments, but do not always address
your emotional and sexual health. In Intimacy After Breast Cancer,
breast cancer survivor Gina Maisano honestly discusses the sensitive
issues of self-esteem, body image, and sexuality to help you become the
total woman you still are.
The publisher of this wonderful book has donated 4 copies to Pink-Link. If you would like to enter our contest, please reply to this email and describe what you have done for yourself lately.
The winning names will be drawn at the beginning of July and the winners will be contacted by email. Please include your name and mailing address in your reply email. Thanks and good luck!

Pink-Link hosted its Hot Hollywood Tea Party at Raleigh Studios
in Hollywood on Sunday, May 23rd, 2010. Breast cancer
survivors and supporters alike attended the event. Close to $10,000 was
raised, all of which will go towards the organization's outreach program
focused on providing support to women with breast cancer worldwide.
