Pink-Linker, Jennifer Poole is a busy mom but finds the time to write about being a young survivor. I met her "by accident" in Washington DC in January when I was participating in the government's Breast Cancer Research Program Review Panel.

Surviving cancer is seldom easy. Treatment can be painful, debilitating, emotionally draining, and financially taxing. And yet, despite it all, a surprising number of cancer survivors report finding a "silver lining" in their cancer experience.

Greetings! My pink photo

February marks our 4 year anniversary! I can't believe we've been connecting survivors for that long! To date, we have about 3,800 members in all 50 states as well as internationally! About 62% of our members are currently in treatment and about 20% of our members are friends and family members. The point is that survivors and care givers are finding the support they need through the Pink-Link website. So, if you know of a survivor that might need some support, please forward this email to them. I'd be remiss if I didn't give kudos to our corporate sponsors, Dermalogica, FHI Heat and Stan Tashman and Associates. Without them, we wouldn't have accomplished all that we have today!

Please save the date for our next fundraiser on Sunday, May 23rd in Hollywood, CA. It's a Sunday Tea with lots of great food and desserts and we'll be seeing a performance by Nicole Johnson, "Stepping into the Ring" and hearing from a variety of speakers. I'll email an invitation next month.

I'll be exhibiting at the 10th annual Conference for Young Women Affected by Breast Cancer at the end of the month in Atlanta. This conference is hosted by the Young Survival Coalition and is full of energy, education and excitement. I'll be reporting back to you about some of the people I meet and new products I discover. Please reply to this email if you're planning on attending the conference. I'd love to meet you in person! All Pink-Linkers will be meeting for a photo op on Saturday, February 27th at the Pink-Link booth at 6pm.

We had some great responses to our December contest, "What are some of your New Year's resolutions?" The winners received a 2010 calendar donated by Breast Impressions as well as a beautiful hand knit item donated by Care to Knit.

I hope you have a wonderful month! Don't forget, you can follow me on Twitter (@pinklinkvicki) and join our Facebook cause!

Oncotype DX assay
While at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium last December, I reconnected with the people at Genomic Health, providers of the Oncotype DX test. If you're considering this test, you can read about it in their own words.

Genes Linked to Drug Resistance

Researchers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute have discovered a gene activity signature that predicts a high risk of cancer recurrence in certain breast tumors that have been treated with commonly used chemotherapy drugs.

Resource Referral Service
Dermalogica logo
So many people have come to me with a great referral for a resource they used or continue to use during and after their treatment. I'm going to start highlighting these resources in Pink Power. If you have a resource you'd like to tell me about, please reply to this email with their information. I can contact them for a brief article describing their services.

Our first one is Life Cycle Health. They are located in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California and they offer some incredible holistic services you might enjoy.
NBCC Annual Advocacy Training Day in Washington DC
Dermalogica logo
The National Breast Cancer Coalition is excited to bring you information about the Annual Advocacy Training Conference! Our national conference will be held May 22-25, 2010, in Washington DC, at the Renaissance Washington Hotel.  The conference is being planned around the theme "Peeling Back the Pink," to emphasize what is really happening in breast cancer today, to look beyond the surface, and to understand where we still need to go. Our goal is to train and empower every advocate who attends to play a meaningful role in our mission to eradicate breast cancer.
Yoga and Breast Cancer
Laura Boitano is looking for participants for her health study on yoga and breast cancer.
