2 Reasons to donate to Pink-Link
We receive comments from our members every day, but these two say it all.

1. "I wanted to say thank you for your website.  I found a girl on your website in my area that was young like me.  Because of our relationship we are now starting a support group for young breast cancer survivors in the Baton Rouge area.  It has been a real need in this area. Because of your website we have made it happen. I just wanted to let you know what a service you have down here in Louisiana!"
~ Shannon B., Baton Rouge, LA, Pink-Link member

2. "My name is Mary and I am twice a breast cancer survivor. I sat down last night and googled breast cancer survivor pen pals and came across your website.  It brought me to tears to see what you had put together. I immediately searched your database and although I did not find a local breast cancer survivor, I found someone close enough for me to email.  She returned the email by morning and I am already composing the next email back to her.  Thank you for creating such an invaluable tool for all of us. Your dream is now my dream and I thank you for what you have done for me and the many women who are about to discover pink-link.org."
~ Mary Z., Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Pink-Link member
Help make our fundraiser successful!
This weekend we are having our 2nd Scrap'n Support fundraiser. It will be held at the Remember When Scrapbooking store located in Valencia, CA. There will be 20 scrapbookers working on their albums, learning about breast health and fundraising for Pink-Link all at the same time! Please support our event by donating on our event fundraising webpage. You can also see a great photo of me and my son, Michael on this page!
Greetings!

My dog, Ricky Well, October has arrived and instead of seeing the usual fall colors, I'm surrounded by pink! Fundraising for breast cancer research and awareness is everywhere! I was eating yogurt the other day, and sure enough, they were supporting breast cancer research! My dog, Ricky even wanted to get into the action by wearing his favorite cap! This phenomena has been building momentum for the last 5 years or so, or maybe I just never noticed. Being a 5-year survivor, I only started seeing the "pink" in 2004.

But, when I think about it, I realize that this pink month helped develop the medical advances that helped me directly. And, every year thereafter, more advances were made and more lives were saved. So, now, whenever the pink month arrives, I'm grateful and put a couple of donation checks in the mail. Because I know that my check today WILL help women tomorrow.

This email is devoted to supporting the pink month. Please take the time to click, read and possibly donate to these organizations who are trying to make a difference to all women everywhere.

Sincerely,

Victoria Tashman

Dermalogica logoMy girlfriend, Courtney, started a company called Pink Wings which sells pink ribbon merchandise. She is a 2-time breast cancer survivor with a TON of energy. I don't know how she does everything she does and with such grace an style I've never seen! She has some great products, some that she designed herself (including the Pink-Link double ribbon pin) and some that she has found along the way. If you put "Pink-Link" in the shipping comments, she'll donate 20% of your sale to us! Thanks Courtney!

Celebrate in PinkKathy McEvoy wanted to celebrate the end her treatment with a big party! She went to her local party store to buy some pink ribbon plates and napkins and found that nothing like that existed! She couldn't believe it and being the high energy social entrepreneur that she is, she created Celebrate in Pink. You'll LOVE the partyware that she designed and will want it at your own pink ribbon celebration. By clicking on this link, you'll tell Kathy that I told you to visit and she'll make a donation.

Good SearchDo you love searching the internet? Now, you can search and donate to Pink-Link at the same time! Incredible, isn't it? Set your home screen on your browser for Good Search and choose Pink-Link as your charity of choice. For every search you click on, Pink-Link receives a penny! It doesn't seem like much, but when there's a number of people searching, sometimes 10 times a day, it all adds up! There's help on their website if you don't know how to set your home screen on your browser.
Donating in General
I received an email from Beth, who founded BreastCancerBracelets.org. She is not a survivor but has breast cancer in her family history and wants to try and generate more awareness for the disease. During October, she has a daily "Pink Pick" of products and services that help promote bc awareness. Many of these products will donate a percentage of sales during the month to a variety of breast cancer organizations.

City of HopeEvery year, the City of Hope organizes its Walk for Hope in various cities across the country. The Los Angeles walk is on October 25th and proves to be just as exciting as in prior years. I was planning on attending the walk and so I created a team page. I'm not able to attend this year, however, but would still encourage you to donate on behalf of Pink-Link. Funds raised supports breast cancer research, treatment and education at City of Hope, a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The event is family oriented and a great way to get involved in the fight against this terrible disease.

Dr. Susan LoveDr. Susan Love has made it her mission to eradicate breast cancer. A year ago, she launched the Love Army of Women in conjunction with the Avon Foundation so that you can partner with research scientists to move breast cancer beyond a cure. Consider joining the Army of Women as well as donating to Dr. Love's Foundation.

Laura Boitano is conducting a study for her senior honors research thesis and is looking at the effects of yoga on the immune status of breast cancer patients.  She is currently recruiting patients on a rolling basis for both the yoga and non-yoga groups.  She aska that patients in the yoga group participate in yoga at least two times a week.  They can participate at home or at a yoga studio.  Additionally, patients in the yoga group as well as patients who are not doing yoga will be asked a series of survey questions bi-weekly over the telephone about their stress level, health and cold symptoms.  The questions won't take more than 5 minutes to answer.  The study lasts a total of four months once the patient starts.  Patients must have active breast cancer; they can be recurrent breast cancer patients, and at some point in their treatment, they must have had either chemotherapy or radiation. You can read a blog article about her study here. Laura's contact information is ltb5@georgetown.edu or 631-838-1587.
