Greetings! I would like to wish a "Happy Mother's Day" to all the moms. I hope you have a wonderful and special day with your family. Pink-Link has kicked off our annual "Mother's Day Appeal" to honor all the moms, aunts, sisters, daughters, neices and cousins whether or not they've had breast cancer. Please consider donating to Pink-Link through the end of May in honor of a friend or family member.
We are planning another Scrap'n Support event in the Washington DC area for June 16th. If you're a scrapbooker living near Falls Church, Virginia, please join us for 12 hours of cropping fun and education. A nutritionist will discuss cancer prevention and an RN will teach us how to do a self breast exam. And, we'll have lots of raffle prizes! I'd love to meet you, so please join us!
We will have a booth at the CURE Day of Caring on June 9th in Riverside, California. Please stop by to learn more about Pink-Link and register for our raffle prize.
Check out the recent issue of MAMM magazine and read about 5 Pink-Link members who have metastatic disease. The article talks about how these survivors are truly "thriving" because of advancements in the medical community. They also discuss the fear that early stage survivors have when talking to metastatic survivors. As one Pink-Link member said, "Let's talk about stage discrimination." It's time to embrace metastatic survivors, as we are all part of the "sisterhood of breast cancer." Let's lead the way for this new thought process!
We've also changed the name of our monthly email to "The Power of Positive Pinking." We hope you'll feel empowered and powerful every month after reading the articles. Have a great May!

May Featured Member - Nancy Bento
In November of 2005 I noticed the nipple of my breast was
pink. It appeared to have an open sore
on it and it oozed some light red discharge.
I used some over the counter ointment and it turned into a crust. They happened over and over and each time I
used ointment. When I mentioned it to close
friends they told me it was just a rash or something and to "get over it".

Skin Markers in Mammograms by Mary Lang, Beekley Corporation
Skin Markers provide a simple and effective way to help
identify moles, scars and other features that might be confused with suspicious
lesions in mammography. Use of skin
markers in breast imaging aids the communication of these features between the
technologist, who performs your mammogram and the radiologist, who interprets
it. Facilities who have adopted this
system report a reduction in the instances where they need to perform extra
views on a patient or call a patient back for additional imaging. You can ask for these skin markers when you go for your annual mammogram.

The Sister Study Is breast cancer caused by something women come
in contact with at work, at home, in their communities or in the personal
products they use? That's what the Sister Study is trying to answer. The Sister
Study needs 50,000 women whose sisters had breast cancer, to enroll now, to help discover the
environmental and genetic causes of breast cancer. Conducted by the National
Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the Sister Study is committed to
enrolling a diverse population of women to ensure the results represent and
benefit all women.

Therapeutic Recreation Study at Brigham Young University My name is Molly Kohrman and I am a Therapeutic Recreation major at Brigham
Young University. I am currently working on a breast cancer research project to
determine the relationship between couple leisure satisfaction and marital
satisfaction of couples in which one spouse has breast cancer. For this study,
both partners will need to complete a survey that will take approximately 20
minutes total. If you and your spouse/partner are interested in participating in this study, please click on the link.
