The 2010 Business Opportunity Fair took each participant's game to a new level with impressive speakers, innovative activities and events, and a surge in participants, including Trade Fair Exhibitors. The Rocky Mountain MSDC's Annual "Business Opportunity Fair" (BOF)
held last Thursday at the Colorado Convention Center was a perfect opportunity
for minority business owners to take their game to the next level. The event
was one of the most successful in recent
memory with major participation by industry players such as MillerCoors, Denver
Water, Denver Housing, AdvenTech, Solera
National Bank, Qwest, Xcel
Energy, Key Bank, AxxessConnect, Summit Container,
Summit Staffing, National Renewable Energy Laboratory,
Lockheed Martin, Brocade, City and County of Denver, Staples, Cisco, Shell, Metro Wastewater Reclamation District, J.F. Sato, Ball, and many others.
This event hosted a capacity audience, kicking off with breakfast and the delightful Christine
Chang of 7News as the Mistress of Ceremony.
Breakfast was followed by a symposium on minority

AxxessConnect; Kedar Morarka, Founder and President of IPW, Inc.; and
Ding-Wen Hsu, Co-Owner and President of Pacific Western Technologies Ltd.

of the Fair and generally network with corporations eager to do business with
participants. During the Business Opportunity Fair,
several corporations were featured within the Power Pavilion.
Additionally, corporations and minority businesses were able talk with city,
state and various businesses, regarding various information that was readily
available within the Resource Row.
After a few hours of networking and business-to-business relationship building,
it was off to lunch with Mistress of Ceremony,
Bazi Kanani of 9News. The luncheon speaker was Dwight
Pullen,Vice President with the Parsons Transportation Group in the Aviation
Division. He is currently serving as the Program Manager for the Denver
International Airport's South Terminal Redevelopment Program (STRP). The
estimated $500 million program will include a terminal expansion, as well as a
landside redevelopment of the airport to include a FasTracks rail station, a
Westin Hotel complex and plaza. The Project Scope includes Visioning, Planning,
Preliminary Design, and Program Management for: Terminal Extension including

Terminal Station for RTD FasTracks, Pena Boulevard Signature Bridge for RTD

received presentation on being focused, meeting one's goals/objectives
in life and business.
We want to thank the Events Committee, every participant and the invaluable volunteers. Message from Stan Sena, President & CEO
The Rocky Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council
Denver, Colorado - August 18, 2010
Above: Stan Sena opens the 2010 Business Opportunity Fair alongside breakfast emcee Christine Chang, moderator Charles Johnson, and Tamela Lee, RMMSDC board chair.
Taking Your Game to the
Next Level An
aspiration we all share, as minority business entrepreneurs ... taking our game
to that elusive next level. The Rocky
Mountain MSDC imagines limitless possibilities for your minority business
enterprise (MBE), and that is why our annual Business Opportunity Fair has become increasingly more important each year. With
economic challenges heretofore unimagined (we dare not imagine such stressful
economic times), it is more important than ever that the Council remain a staunch ally and marshal our forces to connect MBE to MBE
and MBE to corporation to promote a wide variety of goods and services now. In honor of
our MBE constituents and in appreciation of our strong support from corporate
members, we thank each and every participant in the recent Business Opportunity Fair. We know that participants learned from colleagues precisely how they took
their game to the next level as they also heard how exhilarating it has been to look back and see
that their game is many levels beyond their imaginations. There's that
word "imagine" again, so appropriate when we think about a company's
value proposition which first had to be imagined before it could be articulated
and implemented. Throughout the exhibit
hall, we all heard MBEs describing how their enterprise differs
from another similar business and how that difference enhances their value
proposition. It's not enough simply to
explain how your enterprise differentiates itself from its competition: You must also translate that difference to
your value proposition and tie this in to your marketing strategy. Throughout
2010, we have designed our programs, events, and activities around the theme, Get Connected, Be Connected, Stay
Connected. The Business Opportunity
Fair of August 5 in many respects represented the heart of this theme. We have helped our MBE constituents Get Connected through Access Opportunity
events hosted by our generous corporate members, and we have helped those same
MBE constituents to Be Connected, and
now we are witnessing the results of our myriad efforts in that our MBE
constituents are beneficiaries of Staying
Connected. Staying Connected, if we
imagine its wide-ranging effects, is the essence of Taking Your Game to the Next Level because enduring connections are
reinforcing in and of themselves. The net of networking is cast wider and
further. At the Rocky
Mountain MSDC, we are very proud to be of service to minority business in
forging powerful connections that have staying power. Be assured that we will continue to forge new
ground in defining networking and education activities that will serve both our
corporate members and our minority business beneficiaries. We are
sincerely grateful for all the good will surrounding minority business
enterprise and specifically the work of the Rocky Mountain MSDC. We, too, benefit from the programs and
activities of the Rocky Mountain MSDC because our dedication is strengthened by
the many business connections that accrue from our Business Opportunity Fair
and activities throughout the year. Once
again, we acknowledge and thank our corporate members who support our efforts to pave the way for your new
connections to take your game to the next level, and the level after that.

Message from Tamela Lee, Board Chair
Was it only yesterday when the Rocky Mountain MSDC was having its annual Business Opportunity Fair (BOF)? Last year, the theme for the BOF was "More Than Faces, More Than Names." This year, the theme was "Taking Your Game to the Next Level." Certainly, the Events Committee and Staff of the Council worked long and hard inputting together this most successful annual event which gave corporate members and Minority Business Enterprises a chance to showcase their products and services, network, connect, and build last business relationships.
The BOF had an amazing assembly of professional speakers who had a significant impact on the audience assembled at the Colorado Convention Center on August 5: Walker Fleming (AxxessConnect), Kedar Morarka (Image Projection West), and Ding-Wen Hsu (Pacific Western Technologies Ltd) were featured MBE panelists during the breakfast portion of the BOF. All three individuals and companies discussed what they have done to "Take Their Game to the Next Level." The lively discussion was moderated by Charles Johnson, Assistant Athletic Coach, CU Boulder.
The BOF was replete with opportunities to make new contacts and continue building new business relationships. Couple this benefit with an improving economy which has placed buyers in a better position to purchase, and we find a good admixture for our corporate members to do business with our MBEs.
We were honored to have Christine Chang (Channel 7) and Bazi Kanani (Channel 9) as our emcees for the BOF. And we were delighted that Dwight Pullen of the Parsons Group was our keynote speaker for the BOF.
The Council does continue to need your support as we continue to build on the successes we have had during 2010. If you are currently not a corporate member or a Council-certified MBE, join us today and enjoy what others are already experiencing.

Message from Jasmin Espy Chair, Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC)
The
MBEIC has provided a strong foundation of dedicated and committed members. They have created a bridge between the
history of the Council and have embraced the change needed to take us forward. We
have partnered effectively as we took Stan Sena on and Stan took the MBEIC on
in partnering to provide a balance between strategic and tactical areas of
focus. · Over the past year we have made great strides
in structuring a Communications Committee that had great success. Under the leadership of Belinda Hooks,
nothing was too big as she for her as she built a committee that created
publications, bulletins and more to support the Council. · Training and Education: Have you seen the website? When have you seen so many networking
opportunities - so much that it's almost difficult to pick one from among the many
events that support and grow your business. · Networking Events grow your base of
contacts. The Council has provided a
range of events to facilitate these opportunities. ·
Building a Foundation: Layering opportunities that allow for growth
and more importantly sustainable results Minority Business
Enterprises · The value you place on your ROI - making the
right choices in the organizations you support. · You have an opportunity to meet and build
relationships with major corporations in Colorado and nationally · Where else could you stand in the "midst" and
listen for procurement opportunities with procurement managers and individuals
that influence or make purchasing decisions? Corporations · Your support and selection of MBEs helps
ensure sustainability of these small businesses as well as facilitates economic
growth. . Where else do you have the ability to
leverage your time and energy to cut across multiple diverse groups to ensure
you are building a wide and diverse population of MBEs? · You are then able to build resources that
enable you to demonstrate your commitment to Colorado's diverse population -
ultimately positioning your company favorably in support of multi-ethnic
communities and the economic welfare. We
have an organization that has a rich history of developing and supporting
economic growth for MBEs - already positioned to leverage the expected growth
across these diverse groups. There
is no better time than now to remain rooted in support of the Council with its renewed
sense of direction that provides numerous opportunities to take your business
to the next level. I would assert that
growth comes when you are leaning ... in a position where you can reflect on
where you were and where you have landed. Only then will you realize the changes that have facilitated your
growth. Don't
fear what you don't know - use other members and our ability to resource broker
information so we all can benefit in taking our game to the next level. GAME
ON ....SUIT UP...AND LET'S PLAY!
