Message from Stan Sena, President & CEO
The Rocky Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council
Denver, Colorado - July 20, 2010
(At left, Stan Sena stands alongside Tamala Lee, RMMSDC board chair, during a recent event.)
It is with great pleasure that I announce how well the Rocky Mountain MSDC is doing this quarter: We have ten new corporate members. I'd like to invite our Minority Business Enterprises to meet our new corporate members on Thursday, August 26, 2010, from 3 to 5 p.m. at 1445 Market Street. A major component of our ability to attract new corporate members is that we go to great lengths to promote the merits of doing business with minority entrepreneurs. Our MBEs are highly motivated to provide their products and services to our buyers from within our corporate circle, and our corporate members are eager to respond to the broad range of goods and services that our MBEs provide.
What is clearly emerging is a solid pattern of providing our MBEs with value-added activities and events that are often free of charge. For example, Wes Garnett is donating to the Council his considerable expertise in the field of human resources, with three workshops that are free to our MBEs but only $15 for those who are not MBE certified with us. Many organizations in this area offer such workshops at $49 to $99. Two such "free" opportunities (replete with a complementary breakfast provided by one of our corporate sponsors) are coming this month to our offices at 1445 Market Street and we hope to see you there to take advantage of the experience and knowledge of our presenters:
Professional Development: Taking Your Game to the Next Level
Presented by CISCO and CTDI
Wednesday, August 4, 2010 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Professional Development Workshop
with Wes Garnett
2nd of 3 Workshops: Legal Hiring Practices and
Employee Record Keeping
Monday, August 16, 2010
In conjunction with our usual activities and events that connect our MBEs and corporate members, we are currently developing additional services to promote our corporate members, such as the corporate reception referenced above (August 26) and a corporate round table planned for the Fall. These new activities will fit in well with our Access Opportunity events, where corporate members host a morning breakfast while affording MBEs one-on-one opportunities to connect with the host corporation's buyers.
Another important annual event, our Annual Golf Tournament at Arrowhead Golf Course, brought together in record numbers our MBEs and corporate sponsors in a relaxing venue. We're already planning next year's event, which we know will sell out once again. Kudos to our many sponsors who enabled us to stage this popular event.
I would like to thank corporate member CISCO Systems for its generosity in providing us with a new server to help us with our expanding operations. CISCO's donation goes well beyond typical corporate giving and could not come at a better time since we were in dire need of a technology refresh. Thank you, Denise Coley and Ken Carter, for your stalwart efforts to make sure we survive and thrive for years with this new addition to our computer equipment.
Finally, as you all know, we are only fifteen days away from our 2010 Business Opportunity Fair, where we expect to have a full house "Taking Their Game to the Next Level." (See more information below.) New to this year's Business Opportunity Fair is the Power Pavilion and the Resource Row. With so much new and exciting about this year's event, we would ask again for volunteers (see below) to help us ensure the seamless facilitation of this event. Liz Ojeda is our wonderful volunteer coordinator, without whom we would face many more challenges in bringing you this event which has demonstrated its worth in providing connections for MBEs and corporate members.
See you on August 5, 2010 at the 2010 Business Opportunity Fair - "Taking Your Game to the Next Level." But don't forget to attend a timely workshop on Tuesday, July 20: Trade Show Tips and Secrets You Should Know with Kelli Varner. Arrive at the Fair this year prepared as you have never been before. Please see our website to register.

Message from Jasmin T. Espy, Chair Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee
As a business owner we
are sometimes overwhelmed with all of the tasks and duties we must
manage daily. This chaos makes it hard sometimes
to stop and focus on what's working well, and where we are getting a
great return on our investment.
I thought about this
as I was reviewing the Council's website and trying to make notes on all
the upcoming activities and events that are taking place. This is significantly different than a year ago. There has been an incredible amount of energy and focus to
change the landscape. We now have a myriad of
opportunities for skill development, access opportunities and key events
not only for MBE's but Corporations as well. The
style and approach has caught us all as we now are forced to pick and
choose from so many value-added options.
As you make your
selections on activities and events - think about other MBE's or
businesses that would benefit from attending and invite them. Spreading the word supports our brand in the market
and provides a great resource for referrals both at the MBE and
Corporate level. We've seen the benefit of this
in the number of new MBEs as well as Corporations to the Council.
Most importantly,
glance at my top ten reasons we are a part of the Rocky Mountain Minority
Supplier Development Council. Stan,
Belinda and Breana have done a tremendous job in re-building,
re-engaging and re-energizing our brand. When you
have the opportunity, take a minute and thank them - it's the Right
Thing to Do!
Jasmin T. Espy Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee Chair Board Member
