Denver, Colorado - March 16, 2010

Please join us and GET CONNECTED at Growth Through Partnership on March 25!

GET CONNECTED!  That's our battle cry for this important multifaceted annual event.

Not only do we want to help you and your business GET CONNECTED, but we want you to get connected as you have never been before - to groundbreaking technologies that will help you GET/BE/STAY connected, to other minority business enterprises who will inspire you, and to representatives from our corporate members who are eager to do business with you.

We want you to BE CONNECTED, and by that I mean we want you as a minority business enterprise to feel confident in the new connections that you will make at the 2010 Growth Through Partnership conference on March 25, and then we want you to take those connections to the next level by STAYING CONNECTED with The Rocky Mountain MSDC.

The Rocky Mountain MSDC continues to forge new ground in defining what types of networking and education activities will best serve both our corporate members and our minority business beneficiaries. Participation in our Access Opportunity events has proven valuable to many MBEs who are now "connecting" with our corporate members in providing products and services that are highly prized by our corporate members.  To that end, we will expand our Access Opportunity events during the remainder of 2010 (see Calendar below).

To help you STAY CONNECTED, we are also launching a new series of monthly events to emphasize "Social Networking:  Beyond Business After Hours" for the Spring.  Your participation in these activities can and will yield tangible benefits for your minority business enterprise. We will provide our corporate members and MBEs a venue in which we can all interact in a more informal manner.

Many of our activities are designed to work in tandem with our corporate members.  To that end, we will continue to hold frequent Access Opportunity Events with our corporate members.  Our corporate members continue to provide unprecedented support for the Rocky Mountain MSDC at a time when many major corporations are reducing their workforces and the contributions of their supplier diversity departments.

We hope you will join us in saluting the 2010 Growth Through Partnership award winners as they are introduced on March 25, but also each and every one of our minority business enterprises for it is minority business which has consistently demonstrated growth in sales and employment in the face of this decade's significant obstacles.

Finally, I would like to issue a second reminder to all of our Minority Business Enterprise constituents that we want to work with you and there is no better way, other than through a face-to-face encounter, than to use our new ENHANCED CAPABILITY STATEMENT.

Our ENHANCED CAPABILITY STATEMENT is now available online at
http://rmmsdc.org/MBECapability.html.  It is a simple online fill-in that each of our MBE constituents should complete and submit so that we can upload the information and place it into a template that will then be categorized as to products/services.

Stan Sena and Laurie Billeter among "Top 100 Most Influential People in Minority Business Development"

lauriebilleterfinalfinal
Denver, CO  March 9, 2010  Minority Business News USA magazine (March 2010 edition available now and online) has named two officers and directors of the Rocky Mountain MSDC among its "Top 100 Most Influential People in Minority Business Development."

Laurie Billeter, Supplier Diversity Manager of Denver Water, served as chair of the Rocky Mountain MSDC from 2008 through 2009.  As a long-time advocate for minority business enterprise, Billeter states:

I am passionate about minority business development because
   "Minority business development is the strength of our economy. It is important that we build on our business relationships to better serve the community. The strength of minority supplier development is only strong when you have commitment and support from top management. Minority supplier development cannot be an add-on or afterthought to an existing business practice, but instead a commitment to have a sustainable supplier development program that works. I am fortunate enough to have worked within a corporation that has allowed me to develop those relationships within out community that create the foundation for effective minority development programs."

Stan Sena, President & CEO of the Rocky Mountain MSDC, leads the organization in establishing and reinforcing relationships with and among minority business enterprises and corporations, government, academic entities, and others in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico.

Sena is owner of SNAP Staffing Services, a mid-sized staffing firm located in Denver focusing on administrative and light industrial temporary, temp-to-hire, and permanent placement.  He is also President and CEO of Goodwin Personnel, a mid-sized staffing firm located in Denver focusing on placing temporary, temp-to-hire, and permanent placement within the healthcare and dental industry.

Sena is a native of Denver and received his BA from Metropolitan State College and his doctorate in Law from the University of Denver.  He has been an attorney for over 25 years and continues to be active in the Colorado Bar Association, the Douglas County Bar Association, and the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association.

Sena currently sits on the Boards of Solera National Bank as a member of their ALCO Committee, The Hospice of Metro Denver as a chair of their Finance Committee, The Arapahoe House as a chair of their Investment & Finance Committee, The Colorado Staffing Association, The Kroenke Sports Advisory Board, and The Rocky Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council.

Current Activities of the Rocky Mountain MSDC's Standing Committees

The MBEIC currently has two standing committees.  They are the Contracts Committee and the Communications and Outreach Committee.  Other committees are formed on an as needed basis.

I.
The purpose of the Contracts Committee is to facilitate mutually beneficial contractual relationships between certified MBEs and corporate members of the Council.  The Contracts Committee continues to identify and work on various goals.  The committee has outlined the following five goals. They are as follows:

1)      Complete work on a database matrix that captures information supplied to the Council regarding corporations, MBEs, current and potential customers to identify contract, RFP's, and other growth opportunities;
2)      Work to ensure that the Access Opportunity Meetings have key decision makers from "hosting" corporation.  Develop guidelines for the meetings to allow great participation and produce end results;
3)      Identify MBEs (per industry or service group) who will be attending Access Opportunity meetings;
4)      Utilize the MBE Communique to identify potential contract opportunities;
5)      Distribute and include Capability Statement document to MBEs during the recertification,
reciprocal or new certification process.   Capability Statement will be made available on on-line and can be easily updated accordingly.

Further information about the Contracts Committee can be obtained from or directed to its MBE Co-Chairperson, Walker Fleming of Axxess Connect who can be reached at 866.820.5151.

                                                                     II.
The purpose of the Communications and Outreach Committee is to develop, recommend and help implement strategies, programs, professional development workshops and seminars, MBE
Survey, monthly MBE Communique and procedures to maintain effective communications with the Rocky Mountain MSDC's MBEs and corporate members.  The committee is responsible for developing strategies to increase MBE certification and participation in the Rocky Mountain MSDC.  Members to the committee are:  Lily Poon (AdvenTech); Andra Hargrave (Global Sales Advisors); Ron Hunter (TypeEtc); Ellsworth Grant (EnviroFriendly Printing); and Kathryn Rae (Design to Market).  Further information regarding the Communications and Outreach Committee, may be obtained from or directed to its Chairperson, Belinda Hooks of PromoLinks, LLC who can be reached at 303.979.3405.

The Communications and Outreach Committee has produced a unique and picturesque Rocky Mountain MSDC 12-month calendar, a brochure, and a Save the Date postcard to be distributed in January 2010.  The committee is also working on the following deliverables:  Run list for In Touch; MBE orientation, professional development topics, speakers, webinars, and community outreach efforts.  This committee continues to support the Events Committee with marketing, news release, website updates, and more.

The newly formed Rocky Mountain MSDC Events Committee Co-Chairpersons are Laurie Billeter of Denver Water and Tami Young of Adven-Tech. The committee is responsible for three major events of the Rocky Mountain MSDC:  Growth Through Partnership, the Golf Tournament and the Business Opportunity Fair.
