Greetings!
Here come the holidays! We here at the BSRI and the BVTC are joining together to wish you all a happy holiday season! This is a time for family and fun. But it should also be a time for reflection. We need to remember that this is also one of the toughest times of the year for families on the edge. And this year more than others. Organizations across the Blackstone Valley are gearing to do what they can to help make sure the season is happy for everyone. So without further ado, read on... |

Holiday Food Drives
| The holidays can be a tough time of year to not have enough to eat. With unemployment still hovering at record levels across the state, the need for food assistance is as great as it's ever been. To help fill this need, organizations like the RI Food Bank are pushing harder than ever for donations. This year, the goal has been set at a stagger 350,000 pounds of food to be made available for needy families before Christmas. To find out how you can help, visit their website.
But of course, need doesn't end with the new year. Winters in Rhode Island can be long under the best of circumstances. That's why Progreso Latino is prepping now for it's own food drive. The campaign will help replenish the Community Food Pantry and help struggling Central Falls families make it through the winter. For information on this program and what you can do to help, click here. Here's hoping we can all do what we can to make 2012 a better year for everyone in the Blackstone!

Rally for the Valley
|
Last month the BSRI and the BVTC were proud to participate in the 25th anniversary celebration for the John H. Chaffee National Heritage Corridor. Their Rally for the Valley celebration took place in the scenic and historic Woonsocket Train Depot and featured appearances by some of the valley's most prominent supporters. The event was part birthday party, part political rally and was designed to draw attention to ongoing efforts in Congress to establish the BRVNHC as a national park. Highlights included a visit from Congressman Cicilline, and the musical stylings of the Extraordinary Rendition Band. Check out the BRVNHC website for more.

| Thanks to the help and hard work of local residents - not to mention a few Hollywood celebrities - the beleaguered Central Falls library is one step closer to resuming full time operations. The latest infusion of cash came in the form of a $1000 donation by Ms. Viola Davis, star of the DreamWorks movie,"The Help."
According to the AP, the Adam's library has managed to raise enough funds to resume full time operations as early as December 1st. Thanks to everyone who put in their time, their energy and their support to make this a reality.

Bridges to Business and RICLAPP Small Business Programs!
|
Busy entrepreneurs need business attorneys-legal advisors to guide them through the confusing and daunting landscape of entity formation, liability, and contracts. But most small businesses are often strapped for cash, and the high cost of legal support prevents many of them from getting the help they need. To address this, Bridges to Business forged an exciting partnership with theRhode Island Center for Law and Public Policy, giving qualified entrepreneurs access to pro bono legal services.

Thanks as always! Have a great month and we'll see you on Broad Street!
