Greetings!

One of our favorite things about working on Broad Street is the community collaboration that we get to be a part of. Over the past month, we've been exploring possibilities to expand our partnerships while at the same time continuing to strengthen many of the relationships that we've developed over the past year. If you have any suggestions or are interested in partnering with us, please let us know by emailing info@mybroadstreetri.com. We look forward to continuing this work with you.

Pawtucket Proud Day 2011
Pawtucket Proud Day 2011
Pawtucket Proud Day

On June 7th, more than 60 volunteers attended the 8th annual Pawtucket Proud Day hosted by the Pawtucket Foundation. This year, volunteers worked at three sites including Wilkinson Park on Park Place, the parking garage on Main Street, and the Memorial at the Old Colony Bank Building. Volunteers worked to clean up, plant, mulch and landscape around the statue, monuments, benches and throughout the parks. At the parking garage, one team repainted over the graffiti in the stairwell while the other team planted hanging gardens on the roof. We want to give a special thank you to the Pawtucket Foundation for putting this event together and thank you to all the volunteers! To watch a recap of the event, check out the Pawtucket Foundation's video on YouTube.

Back in the summer of 2008, the Broad Street Regeneration Initiative launched the Broad Street International Food Tour which connected people with the cultures and history of Broad Street. After ten weeks of dining at a variety of restaurants in the corridor, the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council launched the program into a full-fledged weekly gastronomical experience happening every Wednesday throughout the Blackstone Valley. Since the inception of the Blackstone Culinaria - Secret Ingredient Food Tours - over 50 restaurants have participated in the program that consists of a demonstration of how food and drinks are made followed by a meal. On May 25th, the food tours once again returned to Broad Street, stopping at La Casona in Central Falls. An intimate group of people went behind the scenes to learn how empanadas and tostones are made. Afterwards, they enjoyed a feast with their choice of chicken, pork or beef. On June 1st, the tours visited Churrascaria Marques in Cumberland where guests enjoyed a demonstration of how to cook baked cod. This was followed by a delicious meal of marinated pork, chicken, and vegetables. Plates were overflowing as guests enjoyed this superb Portuguese restaurant.

Business Classes for Local Entrepreneurs

This summer, the Broad Street Regeneration Initiative is continuing to partner with the International Institute of Boston's Bridges to Business Program to offer business classes, coaching, and services to help create and grow small businesses in Rhode Island! Throughout the month, several Broad Street business owners have participated in these free classes which cover profit and loss, cash flow, business planning, sales, marketing and time management.

After completing the obligatory 20 hour course, business owners will have access to one-on-one business advising and technical assistance including individual mentoring to develop a business plan. Additional services include graphic design, website development, legal services and marketing and public relations assistance.

Interested business owners may inquire about the next session of classes, which will be offered in the area throughout the summer. Please contact Caitlin at 401-724-2200 if you are interested in attending.
