Greetings!
Happy New Year! We hope that you had the opportunity to celebrate this holiday season surrounded by family and friends. Once again, December has been a busy month for the Broad Street Regeneration Initiative. We've been hard at work, check out what we've been up to:

Blackstone Valley Bike Connection First in RI to Utilize "Sharrows"
We are currently in the design phase of the Blackstone Valley Bikeway Connector. A committee representing city officials from all four communities has been meeting regularly with McMahon Associates to finalize the route and design to ensure that this on-street bike route is as safe and direct as possible.
We are pleased to announce that the final design of the connection will be the first in the state to extensively use sharrows! These on-road pavement markings indicate that the road should be shared by both motorists and cyclists. Unlike standard bike lanes, these shared roadways allow cyclists to ride in the center of the road, keeping them away from opening car doors, gutters, and debris. The use of sharrows is ideal in our region when some sections of the road become too narrow for bike lanes. |
Local Merchants Successfully Host 2nd Annual Cocktail Party
On December 16, the Blackstone Valley Merchants Association (BVMA) gathered for their 2nd Annual Cocktail Party, celebrating the economic contributions of Blackstone Valley merchants to the State of Rhode Island. The event was well-attended with representatives from local business, government, and non-profits. It was a lovely evening complete with music by The Bohemian Quartet and special entertainment from DJ Montoya and Todos Somos Latinos TV. In addition to a social hour, the BVMA honored many of the Women Entrepreneurs of Blackstone Valley Merchants Association, recognizing their contributions to both business and family here in the Blackstone Valley. Congratulations to all award recipients!
The BVMA was created to assist business people to acquire a better understanding of economic principles. Technical assistance is provided to promote business expansion, job creation and new entrepreneurship.

Business Directory - Coming Soon! You might have seen Caitlin and Myles, our AmeriCorps VISTAs, around Broad Street during the month of December. They've been bearing the cold to visit each business in order to compile up-to-date information about the various businesses along the corridor. This is part of one of our newest initiatives to market and promote Broad Street through an online directory which will help visitors identify and locate local businesses. If you see them out, be sure to say hello! |
