Greetings!
It is our hope that as we implement the Broad Street Regeneration Initiative Action Plan we will begin to see the community transform robustly, inclusively, and sustainably. You are receiving this email because we recognize that you care about what's happening along the Broad Street corridor and are an important stakeholder in the community. We hope that this monthly newsletter will not only showcase our accomplishments but also be an effective way to let you know what's going on along Broad Street in general. |

Welcome AmeriCorps VISTAs On August 16th, we welcomed our two newest team members to the Broad Street Regeneration Initiative. Caitlin Amos and Myles Ellison will be serving as AmeriCorps VISTAs, working on Broad Street. These recent staff additions directly contribute to improving interaction with you, members of the Broad Street Community. They have already been hard at work building our social media profile (find us on facebook!), redesigning and building content for the new website (coming soon!), and working on the Micro-Enterprise Grant program. We are excited about their hard work and accomplishments, and if you haven't done so already, we invite you to introduce yourself to both our newest members. |

Bike Stripe Progress On July 12th, in conjunction with the Pawtucket Planning Department, we received $38,000 in funding from the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources for the completion of the Blackstone Valley Bike Stripe. The Bike Stripe is an interim project focused on connecting bicyclists from the East Bay bike path to the Blackstone Valley Bikeway via an on-road indicator stripe. It will create recreation and alternative transportation opportunities for residents as well as guide bicyclists to shops and restaurants located along Broad Street. Most recent projections indicate that the stripe will be installed in the spring of 2011. |

America News approved for Micro-Enterprise Grant On September 2nd, the Broad Street Regeneration Initiative in partnership with the Cumberland Planning Department agreed to disperse $15,000 in MicroEnterprise grant funds to Alfonso Acevedo, editor and publisher of America News. America News is the oldest Spanish Language newspaper within the state of Rhode Island and prides itself in providing its readers with real news stories from within the community. This award will be used for new signage and capital equipment. Congratulations, Alfonso! |

Sincerely, The Broad Street Regeneration Initiative Blackstone Valley Tourism Council |

Broad Street business owner Cristian Tabares didn't plan on getting robbed. The Colombian restaurant he has nurtured since 2006 was broken into late this summer. With the help of a MicroEnterprise grant, however, he was able to bounce back within a month. Money originally meant to update old kitchen equipment was reallocated to replace stolen televisions, a computer, and to install a new alarm system. |
