HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ADA!

July 26 marks the 20th anniversary of The American with Disabilities Act of 1990 which prohibits discrimination against Americans with Disabilities. Disability is defined by the ADA as a "physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity."
On September 25, 2008, President George W. Bush signed into law the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA). This was intended to give broader protections for disabled workers and "turn back the clock" on court rulings which Congress deemed too restrictive. ADAAA provides that the definition of disability "shall be construed in favor of broad coverage of individuals under this Act, to the maximum extent permitted by the terms of this Act."
