Diocesan conventions are a time when lay and clergy delegates from each congregation in the diocese gather for worship, fellowship and to discuss and make decisions about the budget, resolutions, canons and other issues.

The Nominations Committee has been working for several weeks to find persons who are willing to serve as nominees for a variety of diocesan leadership positions. These nominees will stand for election at the 138th Diocesan Convention being held in Columbus on November 9 -10. The committee is pleased to report that they've been largely successful in developing a slate of nominees for many of the available positions--but not for all.
Please prayerfully consider whether God is calling you to step into leadership. Nominations come both by self-nomination as well as recommendations to the committee.
Here's the catch. Nominations are due by this coming Tuesday, September 25. By the end of the day on Tuesday, a nominee needs to have completed an online form which can be found here: https://diosohio.wufoo.com/forms/m7w9s1/. Nominees also need to submit a photo to accompany the form.

25 - (45 days) Deadline for nominations and resolutions.
25 - Journal reports due. Deadline for recommendations for commission appointments
October 10 - (30 days) Necrology (list of those who have died in each congregation during the past year) due to Geri McDaniel at gmcdaniel@diosohio.org.

Nominations
The Nominating Committee seeks candidates to serve in a variety of leadership positions:
- Budget Committee
- Diocesan Council
- Standing Committee
- Trustees of Church Foundation
- Trustees of the Diocese
- Episcopal Community Services Foundation
All nominations must be received no later than Sept. 25. Only submissions received by the deadline will be printed in Interchange. Please send submissions or questions to convention@diosohio.org

Resolutions
Resolutions are a key way for the people of the diocese to discuss and reflect upon issues in the church and beyond.
All proposed resolutions must be received by Sept. 25 at convention@diosohio.org. The Resolutions Committee will meet that week to review the resolutions. Those submitting resolutions are expected to attend, or have a representative at, the deanery pre-convention hearings. Contact: Jim Heathcote at 937.446.2108 or jheathcote@earthlink.net.

Registration fees for convention cover the cost of two meals and convention materials. The meals include the Friday evening convention banquet and a buffet lunch on Saturday afternoon.
Our new streamlined registation process makes it easy to register for convention as an individual or a group. But if you are registering a group, there are some things that you will need to know about the person your are registering before beginning the process:

Home address
Phone number
When registering a group, you will select the convention "package" that is appropriate for each individual attendee. Here are some things that you will need to indicate for each person:
Clergy Status (if applicable)
How would you like your name to appear on your badge?
Do you have any special needs? (dietary or other)
Friday night banquet entrée choice
Do you need childcare? |

Before anyone gets registered for convention, you need to certify your election of lay delegates. This should have been done immediately after your congregation's annual meeting. But if you haven't certified delegates yet, here's where you can do it:
If you've certified your delegates, but find that you now need to send an alternate instead, you need to fill out a change of delegate form.
Please fax the completed form to 513.371.5147 or 513.421.0315 or mail the form to Diocese of Southern Ohio, attn: Heather Windle, 412 Sycamore Street, Cincinnati OH 45202.
For changes made after October 1, please fax the form AND bring the original to the registration help desk at the convention. |

Convention will be held at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North. The rooms are $89 without tax for a single or double room. The price includes wireless Internet.
Make reservations by calling the hotel directly at 614.885.1885 and ask for the group rate for the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio (Code is EPD)
You may also make your reservation online at www.crowneplaza.com/columbusnorth. Once you are on the site you will select your arrival and departure dates. Then click on the area that says "Have a Group code". Enter the 3 letter code EPD and then click on view rates. This will direct you to the special room rates for the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio and you may begin to make reservations.

"Virtual" pre-convention hearing The diocese for the first time will offer for those unable to attend any of the scheduled pre-convention hearings a "virtual" hearing via webinar on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m.
