| Would you make an announcement this Sunday? Vote online to win $10,000 for community ministry through ECSF!
Episcopal Community Services Foundation is in the running for a 2012 Chase Community Giving grant. By voting online before Sept. 19 and asking friends to join you, you could boost ECSF to the top 196 nominated charities, adding $10,000 to the grant dollars we can send to the community ministries for which many of you are submitting grant requests this week.
If a few hundred people vote for ECSF this week, we could win! Think of the good these dollars will do for the neighbors in dire need who are turning to your pantries, shelters and emergency assistance programs!
Anyone with a Chase checking or savings account can vote for Episcopal Community Services Foundation by googling " Chase Community Giving" and following the prompts.
Anyone with a Facebook account can vote for us by logging into Facebook and searching Facebook for " Chase Community Giving." Enter Episcopal Community Services Foundation in the box for choosing what charity you want to vote for. Then you're prompted to accept an app, after which you can cast a vote. You get to vote for two charities. Your vote could benefit thousands of people in need.
Please make an announcement this Sunday to let everyone in your congregation know about this opportunity. And ask all your Facebook friends to vote too!

ERD Abundant Life Garden Project: St. Francis Day Blessing of the Animals
A special edition of our Abundant Life Garden Project resources for Blessing of the Animals is available to you for free download to introduce children, their parents, and others in your faith community to the work of Episcopal Relief & Development.
These materials may be used for Blessing of the Animals services, children's chapel, Sunday school, school chapel services or other worship services and Christian formation programs. Materials may be printed and used with little advance preparation. We supply you with a litany, a homily accompanied by photographs, discussion questions, and child-appropriate prayers.
We invite you to share in our ministry of healing a hurting world by giving the gift of animals to others in need around the world. These Gifts for Life - cows, pigs, goats, bees and chickens - empower the people we serve, enabling them to produce food for their families and sell surplus produce to others.

| Two videos address domestic poverty; appropriate for congregation discussion group
Presidential campaigns address domestic poverty
Circle of Protection, an ecumenical alliance of Christian leaders of which Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori is an original member, has released videos from the presidential candidates that can be utilized by groups, congregations and dioceses to discuss the pervasive issue of poverty in the United States.
The Episcopal Church, as a member of National Council of Churches (NCC) and the Circle of Protection, encourages the use of the two videos - one from each of the presidential candidates - in congregational discussion groups and adult forums as an opportunity for congregations to talk about poverty and how it is woven into the discussions of the upcoming national election.
Noting that domestic poverty was cited by General Convention as a priority issue for the Episcopal Church, Bishop Stacy Sauls, Episcopal Church Chief Operating Officer, commented, "As people of faith, we encourage Episcopalians and congregations to view these videos and discuss the issue of poverty in our country. We need to make clear that we maintain poverty is a touchstone issue in this election."
Note: The Christian leaders who initiated the "Circle of Protection" asked the two major nominees for president to offer a brief video outline of how they would seek to overcome poverty as President. The Christian leaders express their thanks to both President Obama and Governor Romney for their positive responses to this request. The leaders also wish to make clear that this effort in no way offers or implies an endorsement of either candidate or the proposals in their statements. Likewise, the participation of Governor Romney and President Obama does not offer or imply an endorsement of the positions taken by the Circle of Protection or its members. |
