There is a whole new world of potential clients you can reach over the internet. Whether you are working on a new website, launching your first site, or want to take your current website to the front page of Google, you absolutely need to implement Search Engine Optimization.

  • Use WordPress Blogs, Social Networks like Facebook and Linked in,  JDSupra, Twitter, and Avvo.com
  • Another great strategy is to use Videos & Podcasts on your website and places like YouTube and iTunes.  Not only will you be ahead of the game because few attorneys are using video on their websites...yet, but using video can significantly increase your conversion rates!.

2.  Use the right keywords. Select the right keywords by focusing on 3 areas:

  • Geography - 'Orange County lawyers' 12,100 average searches per month as opposed to 'Lawyer in Orange County' which has only 1,600 average searches per month 
  • Description of practice - 'Divorce Lawyer' 40,500 average searches as opposed to 'Family Lawyer' 9,900
  • And attorney vs. lawyer -  'Attorney' 1,500,000 average searches as opposed to 'lawyer' at only 201,000 (Stats taken from Google)
3.  Build inbound links. Get listed in as many directories as you can or barter for links with sites that are non competitive.  All the best law firm directories charge a fee to be listed.

  • I highly recommend Nolo's Attorney Directory. It's reasonably priced, has great "Google juice" and it's generated a lot of leads for many of my clients.

 

SEO takes time. It's not a magic wand. Often times a good SEO campaign will take 3-5 months to start producing great results.
