Greetings!
I know you all figured out years ago that Kimball & Bean Garden Antiques is just a thinly veiled attempt to provide cover for our true vocation: superhero food explorers. Thanks for not exposing our little self-deception.
We have all kinds of stylish new stuff in the store now and we're just starting to get organized for the big holiday event, so you might want to stop out before all "you know what" breaks loose around here.
Be sure to check out Nancy's quick garlic cream and artichoke heart pizza recipe below.

Ten charming wooden planter boxes in old mossy red paint, a French faux bois cast iron and wood bench, a beautiful 1930's wrought iron standing candelabra, another perfect 1920's
English wirework bench, a cast metal tree form table
with a black granite top, a nice neo-classical gateway with posts, a lovely set of twelve chinoiserie English china plates, a fluted melon
shaped urn, a 19th c. fountain with a fluted top and lion ornamented base, a massive seven and a half foot long brass fire fender, a charming little "girl" cast iron doorstop, a couple of woven metal handled baskets and a nice 42" strap iron bench and a bunch of other new stuff I can't remember right now.

There is no Place Like Home
It is true that we've traveled all over America and the UK eating and drinking in a manner that some might say combines the scientific method with Russian roulette. Nancy scours cookbooks, food magazines and the the blogs of thousands of insufferable, self-appointed food experts in her quest to assemble the definitive guide to can't miss food stops.
On the other hand, I prefer to hit the brakes and jump out of the truck at the corner of "Gangster" and "Ghetto" in Galesburg, Glasgow or God knows where to buy something on a stick from a guy with an eye-patch and a monkey trained to make change.
But last night, we finally figured out where the best meals really are - right here at our kitchen table. Nancy is not just a food academic, she is a hands on, fabulous, creative cook and we have access to many of the best food products on earth right here in exurban Chicago. Don't get me wrong, we love to go out and we'll still travel the globe in search of that next great trained monkey, but when it comes to lovingly prepared food that does double duty enriching our lives and supporting friends who produce or sell it nearby - There truly is no place like home.
What started as simple school-night dinner of Pizza and salad became a community celebration when our own fall crop of arugula, mixed greens, and radishes was combined with onions and garlic from Sue Rekenthaler, cheese and apple wood smoked bacon from our friend " Trader Joe" and a stone-baked crust from the Jewel. What we produced was a beautiful French salad kissed with one of Nancy's never duplicated (because she can't quite remember exactly what went in to it) dressings, one pizza smothered with garlic cream sauce, artichoke hearts and a blend of four cheeses and a second topped with chunky homemade roasted tomato sauce, bits of smoky bacon, sliced green pepper, onion and another dose of the four cheese blend.
It's good to be king!

Need a Great Bottle to go with your Pizza?
A friend of ours turned us on to Lot18, a free membership by invitation website for wine. Now, for the first time in our lives, we have more than just enough wine to make it through dinner (we actually might make it through lunch tomorrow). They offer great wines you may have never heard of in small quantities at extraordinarily low prices. Check it out.
