Humpback whales shocked a bikini-clad
surfer girl!
Humpback whales shocked a bikini-clad surfer girl and two kayakersthis past week when they leapt out of the water and lunged disturbingly close to the group in the waters off Santa Cruz, California.
Many tourists on the Santa Cruz Wharf and several kayakers surrounded the 40-foot mammals en masse as the whales have erupted from the ocean.
The photographer was kayaking with a friend; taking photos when she saw the bubble net appear. A bubble net is a feeding technique unique to humpback whales. According to Alaska Whale Foundation, humpback whales use bubbles to catch their prey.
PS: The surfer is allergic to neoprene - which is why she was out in the water without a wetsuit.>> Read more |

This charming cottage surrounded by two luscious apple trees and three grapefruit trees all ready to be picked. As you walk on to the classic California front porch, the front door will open up to the comfortable living room with a real wood fireplace with several comfy chairs and a cushy queen sofa couch. To the left of the front door is your very own standup piano for sing alongs. Walking a few steps to the back of the house you come upon a dining room with 6-chairs and a view of the french doors that open to the backyard. The yard features a spacious wooden deck with a hot tub, and several lounge chairs. There is a flower garden within view of the deck as well as a charcoal BBQ. The charming kitchen has a country look with lots of counter space. The home is decorated with several unique items such as an original rotary phone, and artisan coffee mugs. Sorry, no pets.

Santa Cruz Owners & Prospective Owners Event

A Network Of Friends Gathering held on Sunday October 16, 2011.
AGreatPlaceToStay.net had a nice turnout for our Owners and Prospective Owners Event on October 16, 2011. Everyone enjoyed Mexican Style Harvest Party foods with lots of flavor and color in celebration of Fall and visited with old and new friends that are not NIMBY's.
We discussed how the Santa Cruz County Vacation Rental Ordinance is progressing and how those who have finished registering will be able to help those who are still in process. These MUST BE finished by Nov 28th, 2011 in order to be Grandfathered-in, and the lines are getting longer at the county.
One of the fun topics we discussed was: "What did we learn from our guests lately? Several nice things, like a better location of furnishing, great ideas from the Guest Log of what to do in the area that we might have not tried out ourselves like a new restaurant or fun local event. One of our more observant owners, Michael Hickey of the Garden Harbor Cottages, mentioned that his favorite guests were bald headed women!.. When asked why, he replied, "Because they usually leave the home very clean neat, and they don't leave any hair!" We had a guest speaker, Sandy Wallace, short-sale Realtor extraordinaire, who gave the blow by blow details on the exciting events that landed our owner Mary and Bill Breeding in an ocean view home, half a block away from the Tudor Rose Manor! Thank you to all who showed up and made this a fun success. Please join us for our next Owners and Prospective Owners Event on Sunday, April 22, 2012.
