The Silver Line is Coming!
Metro Logo

The Town of Herndon is well into planning for the arrival of Metrorail later in this decade.  The station will be built in the median of the Dulles Toll Road, with a pedestrian bridge that will connect the station to Herndon. The study area includes a core of approximately 110 acres north of the new station and is targeted for possible transit-oriented development.  The town's consultant on the Metro Area Study Project, VHB Inc., has developed an updated draft plan for the area.  Community meetings have been conducted to get business and citizen input in the plan.

As a Herndon business, your input into the plan is vital.  The Town Council is holding a public hearing on the Metro Area Study plan on Tuesday, February 14, 7pm in the Ingram Council Chambers, 765 Lynn St., Herndon.  Please check out the draft plan, and let the council know what you think by following this link.
Tax Exemption for New Businesses Begins This Month
buildings

Qualifying businesses opening locations within the town are exempt  from paying business license taxes for one year, beginning this month; and for two years, beginning January 2013 and thereafter.

Qualifications required for businesses that claim the exemption include location in one of the town's business zoning districts; businesses located in districts zoned for residential purposes (home-based businesses) do not qualify. Businesses must also locate within the town's corporate limits for the first time to claim the exemption, as opposed to location via merger, acquisition, name change or change in business model. All businesses, including those exempt from paying business licenses taxes, must obtain business licenses. For more information, visit the "Business" tab on the town's Web site, www.herndon-va.gov.
