A Word from the Director

On behalf of the ASA Committee of Management, I would like to warmly congratulate Libby Gleeson - honourable recipient of the 2011 Dromkeen Medal. The Dromkeen Medal is awarded annually 'for a significant contribution to the appreciation and development of children's literature in Australia'. Libby has certainly made that contribution, winning numerous awards (including the Lady Cutler Award for Services to Children's Literature, and a Special Award at the NSW Premier's Awards), and being admitted as a Member of the Order of Australia. Currently a Councillor of the ASA, Libby has also served on our  Committee of Management and afforded much time and effort to this organisation's work on behalf of writers and illustrators. It would be hard to think of a more deserving recipient!

On another note, nominations for the 2012 ASA Committee of Management close this Monday 6 February, at 5pm. You must be a full and financial member of the organisation in order to nominate or be nominated. Please go to the ASA website to download a nomination form.

Executive Director
Children's Picture Book Illustrators' Initiative

Funded by the Australia Council for the Arts, and managed by the Australian Society of Authors
OZCO Logo
Applications are invited from emerging, developing and established Children's Picture Book illustrators for grants to assist with the creation of a new picture book.

This is a one-off initiative to provide grants to children's picture-book illustrators to give them time to develop a work-in-progress. It aims to establish a 'best-practice' methodology for assessing applications from picture-book illustrators for the Australia Council's New Work funding category.

The initiative arises out of an understanding that illustrators may find it difficult to apply for grants given the extremely nascent quality of their works-in-progress. While projects may not be fully formed, illustrators are encouraged to demonstrate their project to the best of their ability.

Guidelines and application forms can be downloaded from the ASA websiteEligibility criteria apply - please read the Guidelines carefully.

Applications close 29 February 2012.

For further information please email or contact Lucie Stevens on 02 9211 1004.
