Family Hunting at Schmok Lake Caribou Camp
|
Our 2011 season saw a lot of family hunts--fathers and sons or daughters, and a few husband and wife duos! During our very first week of caribou hunting at Schmok Lake, we hosted two great father/son teams.

Ross and Jason Roy booked their hunt after speaking with Sales & Operations Manager Kent Michie at Hunt Fest in Winnipeg, MB. Jason was very excited about the prospect of shooting two bulls on the trip and the fact that he could hunt for these majestic tundra monarchs with his father. We're happy to report that the experience did not disappoint! Our second pair, Gerald and Jeremie Kuhl, were the lucky recipients of a caribou hunt that was donated by Webber's Lodges to the Steinbach Fish and Game Club as a raffle prize. They also each got two great bulls. To read more about the great week of hunting these four hunters enjoyed, check out the full story on our blog.

During our last week, we hosted a father/daughter duo. Due to poor weather, their hunt got off to a bit of a late start but they still had plenty of time to get their animals. They even had a chance to see some polar bears while in Churchill! Tom graciously shared with us an account of their trip which we have posted on our Webber's Lodges blog for you to enjoy. There are some great pictures as well so be sure to check it out! |

Trophy of the Month
|
This month's well-deserved trophy goes to a Schmok Lake caribou camp guest, Crystal Watson.
Crystal joined her husband on the hunt as a last-minute replacement and left with this year's records for both the closest and farthest shots taken to land trophy bulls. Way to go, Crystal!

Canadian Government Eliminates Long Gun Registry
|
The Conservative government, in power since 2006, have tried in the past to do away with the intrusive and unnecessary registry but due to a minority government situation, they were unable to get it done. Now, with a landslide victory in 2010 and solid majority under their collective belts, they announced late last month that the wheels are being set in motion.
The efforts of hunters, industry organizations like the Manitoba Lodges & Outfitters Association (MLOA), and Conservative MPs, finally seem to have paid off.
