Just Beautiful Gardens, no Fussy Teas
If you picture the Idyllwild Garden Club as a group of little old ladies sipping tea and fussing over their petunias, think again! Since 1956, this vibrant organization has actively carried out its mission to promote: advancement of gardening, beautification of Idyllwild, education, and protection of native plant species.
Through IGC's monthly meetings, website, and newsletter, members acquire the special skills needed to meet the challenges of mountain gardening. We also learn ways to incorporate native plants into our gardens to support the lives of all creatures both large and small that are an integral part of our mountain environment.
Club members bring beauty to our village by planting bulbs, maintaining public spaces, and caring for the colorful whisky barrels, planted with drought resistant perennials seen in front of businesses around town. The shared efforts of volunteers and business owners result in a burst of color during late spring and early summer that everyone can appreciate.

IGC's most ambitious project......the Village Garden
We are grateful to ICF for its generous support of our most ambitious project to date-the creation of the Village Garden on the grounds of the Idyllwild Area Historical Society. Over the past four years, IGC designed and planted a drought tolerant garden of mostly California natives that will bring years of pleasure to us all. And this year, Garden Club members added a Memorial Heirloom Rose Garden of more than 20 unique varieties to the Village Garden. |

Service with a Smile.....Bronwyn Jones
Our guest editor, Bronwyn Jones, brings to the Board 30 years of experience in the world of publishing, during which she edited and co-authored, with Ralph Blum, a series of metaphysical books that focused on how to use the Runes as a tool for self-counseling. A full-time Idyllwild resident, she also | | B |
serves on the boards of the Friends of the Idyllwild Library and Spirit Mountain Retreat. For the past seven years she has volunteered as an adult ESL teacher at Idyllwild School on Tuesday nights, enjoys speaking French once a month at Aroma with Les Francophonies, loves singing with Local Color, sitting Zazen with Kyoshin and the Idyllwild Community Meditation Sangha, and is a native plant enthusiast who hopes someday to certify her Fern Valley garden, which she lovingly calls "Lily Rock Native Gardens", as a wildlife habitat. Till next time....... The Executive Board of the Idyllwild Community Fund. |
