ISIS Theater Company, a Jewel in Idyllwild's Crown
Founded in 2003, Isis is a non-profit that keeps giving back to our community by producing 3 main-stage plays every summer, 5 theatrical readings over the winter, and a Christmas Show every year. No one is paid, not the actors, the directors or the tech crews. All give freely of their time to present first class theatre to our village. | | Howard Shangraw Suzanne Avalon |
Over the years, Isis has presented over 40 productions, including "Our Town," "String of Pearls," "Sylvia," "Sh-Boom, " "The Glass Menagerie," "The Elixir" and "The Guys." Proceeds from the performance of "The Guys" went to the Idyllwild Fire Department's Equipment Fund. Suzanne Avalon, founder, president, and artistic director of Isis, is probably the hardest working woman in showbiz today, tirelessly bringing new productions to town, searching out new talent for cutting edge performances, and finding new plays that will excite, yet work in the smaller venues available in our town. |

Isis has been awarded 3 grants from ICF: lighting equipment in 2008, a portable stage in 2009, and sound equipment in 2011. All of these items have added immeasurably to each production. Isis also 'pays it forward' by allowing other non-profits to borrow this equipment for their fund-raising presentations, most recently for the Help Center's "Murder at the Howard Johnson, directed by Conor O'Farrell, and ICRC's presentation of Mick Lynch's "Out of the Pine."
