smARTS Completes 63 Art Classes by Joann Tomshe
Students in Brennen Priefer's 5th grade class made Water Cycle Mobiles to tie in with their science unit. One of smARTS objectives is to address multiple learning modalities. In this project, science concepts are reinforced with visual and kinesthetic activities.
This was just one of 63 diverse art classes completed by smARTS during the fall program. Other classes supported by a grant from the Idyllwild Community Fund included gourd painting, self portraits, metal embossing and perspective drawing. Many thanks for your support.

The "Woodies"......An Introduction by Jim Taylor
Grant Recipeint 2003-4, 2006-8, 2010
The "Woodies" is the volunteer arm of the Mountain Communities Fire Safe Council. We meet weekly to cut and split wood for the Idyllwild Help Center which distributes it to those in need. The "Woodies" also do yard abatement during the summer.
The Idyllwild Community Fund grant helped the "Woodies" with funds for new safer and environmentally better gas cans, a dolly for hauling larger rounds of wood and maintenance and chains for chainsaws.
Since our inception, the "Woodies" have donated more than 18,000 hours to the community, cutting more than 600 cords of wood. It would be difficult to continue without the support of the Idyllwild Community Fund. Visit our website to volunteer for the "Woodies" and learn about our mission. |

Getting to Know You.....Adele Voell
Our guest editor this issue is Adele Voell, ICF Board member and professional Idyllwild volunteer. In 1996 Adele and her husband moved to Idyllwild from Texas. After a career in the US Navy and the business world, Adele began her lifelong dream of giving back to her community at the Idyllwild library. She served as the Volunteer Coordinator and Membership Chair before becoming the President of the Friends of the Library this year just in time to develop a passionate involvement in the move to a new facility.
On the Board of the Idyllwild Area Historical Society and a "helper" for ICRC's Speaker Series, Adele also finds time to volunteer at the Help Center and be President of P.E.O. an organization supporting women's education.
When off the hill, Adele will be attending another of her "involvements", the WAVES, a group of sea service women from the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard.
And so....Adele is your Idyllwild neighbor, supporting your efforts, being there when needed and lending a hand in so many ways. We are fortunate to have her expertise and committed voice on the ICF Board. |
