Dear Friends,

Carole Kane

Carole Kane

M.A., N.C.C. ret.

Welcome to Living Happy,  a nice way to feel and be our best!  Rather than concentrating on all the "bad" news in today's media, Living Happy is  about good, interesting, and fun things for everyone.

This week's articles are wonderful!

Helene Herman tells us about her latest great adventure.  It's a first-time experience for her!

Arthur Lewin speculates that there may only be one spaceship in the whole universe.  An interesting, thought-provoking view.

Next, Glynis Hedley takes us back to the same haunted house that Joyce Magnavito wrote about a few weeks ago.  They had some scary experiences together there!

Then Jo Pico offers us a beautiful poem about Heaven, and muses about what it might be like there.

Finally, Brad Holway examines the development of early man.  He wonders about what the dawn of higher intelligence and communication may have caused.  What do you think about this?

My article is a simple reminder about three important prescriptions everyone should be taking.  Guess what they are?

Enjoy the jokes and quotes.

And remember, next week you will receive the October  Dolphin magazine instead of Living Happy.  You're going to LOVE it!

Happy Reading!

Love, Carole XXX OOO

Put a kick in your life with these prescriptions!    By Carole Kane

There are three miraculous prescriptions that your doctor may or may not tell you about.

The first makes you feel happier. It makes you look younger. And if you take enough of it, it makes you "high." When you use it properly, it improves your health. But - it can be addictive, so be prepared to take it for the rest of your life.

The next two should be used every day for best results. They boost the immune system and make you look good, and if you share them, you get double the amount back!

What are these three magical prescriptions? Yes - you guessed it:

Exercise, Smiles, and Laughter.

Just a quick little reminder!

The Great Adventure                                                        by Helene Herman

123rf.com

I'm off on a great adventure,

 Excited but nervous, it's true,

My suitcase is packed with clothes I won't need,

My handbag is stuffed full too.

The mail has been stopped for the weekend,

My neighbor is watching my home,

So many details to take care of,

Before I set off to roam.

I'm on my way to Chicago,

Where my son, an apartment he seeks,

He asked for my aid, I didn't hestitate,

I don't want him living near freaks.

So the flight is booked for tomorrow,

With my son I know that I rate,

I'm just a little  bit nervous,

I've not flown alone, at age 58!

I've given birth to two children,

Survived marriage and divorce too,

I hope the pilot is sober,

That there is a competent crew.

I feel lucky my son wants me,

I don't mean to whine and groan,

It will really feel jive, When I get there alive,

Flying out to adventure,

Alone.

Only Spaceship in the universe                          By Dr. Arthur Lewin

What if? What if all the tales of UFOs turn out to be false? What if, after all, there is only one  spaceship in the entire universe?

The stupendous vessel raced swiftly, silently through sparkling Black Infinity.  Many different crews manned its vast, intricate, multi-faceted expanse. They knew not where they were headed, where they hailed from, or even how they came to be on the gigantic soaring vessel.  Some believed they were mere emanations from the belly of the gigantic beast upon which they rode.

They were prone, from time to time, to fall to fighting amongst themselves. The question of their origins, itself, was oft a bone of deadly contention.

Any engineer will tell you never to locate two vital functions side-by-side in any mechanism. Here, though, two very critical operations occupied the same exact space. A number of fuel crews and morale boosting crews actually worked cheek-by-jowl. Conflicts amongst the crews flared occasionally, but here especially the fighting was fierce and nearly constant. Thus the entire ship was often faced with the most serious of consequences!

Nonetheless, the majestic, beautifully blue and white, voluminous vessel lumbered on in its mysterious journey through the endless sea of time and space. And so a curious question comes to mind. If the only spaceship in the universe were to be destroyed, would the stars still shine?

The House                                       By Glynis Hedley

The heavy oak door shut behind me, blocking out the sounds from the busy North London street. The hallway was dark and dismal and it was as if I had suddenly stepped back in time. There was an unnatural coldness at odds with the warm day. No, this is not the beginning of a gothic novel, but a very real experience.

When I was 22 and living in London, I started a new job in the City. It was there I met Joyce Magnavito and we soon discovered many interests in common. We are still friends today, 38 years later.

Hampstead Village
Hampstead Village.

When Joyce invited me to visit the house she shared with three other young women, I felt uncomfortable as soon as I entered, but I did not immediately voice my fears. It was some time later, on descending the winding staircase, that I distinctly felt a hand in the small of my back, pushing me. I began to stumble, but fortunately saved myself by grabbing the banister rail. Had I imagined it? I thought not.

Sometime after, I discovered a medium had sensed that in the past, a young girl with fair hair and a pale complexion had been murdered in the house - pushed down the stairs. I, too, had fair hair and pale skin. A strange coincidence.

Joyce told me that she had experienced some very unnerving occurrences and we became certain that there was an unseen, hostile presence.

One day, we decided to hold a sance. We set up the letters and an upturned glass and asked the question, "Is there someone here who would like to communicate with us?" We were unprepared for what happened next. We had barely touched it, when the glass slid across the table with great force and speed, shattering on the floor. We did not attempt the experiment again.

On another occasion when I was there, I felt a migraine coming on. Joyce suggested I should lie down before attempting my journey home. I lay with my eyes closed, but unable to sleep. Suddenly, I felt a presence beside the bed. At first I assumed it was Joyce, but realized I could hear her movements along the hallway. As we were alone in the house, who or what was it? I could not bring myself to open my eyes, and lay there feeling terrified until my friend returned.

I did not visit the house again.

Note:  Joyce Magnavito and Glynis Hedley are both members of the Living Happy Writers Group.  Joyce presently lives in New Jersey, U.S.A.  and Glynis now lives in France

 Heaven  by Josephine Pico

I want to know what Heaven's like

Shall we all be young once more

Shall we run and play without a care

Just like we did before????

I want to know what Heaven's like

Marshmallow clouds on high

With angels playing on their harps

As gently they glide by????

I want to know what Heaven's like

I've heard so many lines

But no one here has yet returned

To tell us of their finds.

Mysteryworlds.wordpress.com

I want to know what Heaven's like

When shadows dim the sky

Will I be zapped up by the stars

Or given wings to fly????

I want to know what Heaven's like

No earthly cares or duty

Just love and peace and happiness

And warmth and endless beauty????

I want to know what Heaven's like

These thoughts inside my head

Did I get things all messed up

And is it here instead?????

A funny thing happened on the way to humanity         By Dr. Brad Holway

Based on studies of skeletal remains, the consensus among the scientific community is that members of our species, Homo sapiens sapiens, have been virtually unchanged from a physical standpoint for some 200,000 years.  Thus, an ancestor from that dim time, if somehow transported to the present and clad in modern garb, would likely pass unnoticed if walking down a city street.  These early humans, though physically like the people of

today, may not have been human in the sense that we understand humanity.  It is believed that they had no art, no religion or cosmology, and no music; they possessed only a rudimentary stone technology and it is conjectured that they may not have had a fully developed language that could express abstract concepts such as past, future or conditionality.

Then, suddenly, about 70,000 years ago, something odd and miraculous happened somewhere on the African continent.  It seems that the brains of our ancestors were suddenly rewired.  Artwork sprang forth, and musical instruments such as bone flutes began to appear at human habitation sites.  Technology began to advance rapidly.  Evidence of religious ceremonies like ritual burials appeared.  Quite possibly, modern human language came into being at this time, a vehicle for communicating these more sophisticated concepts and laying the groundwork for the later rise of civilization.

Armed with superior technology, advanced language skills and "rewired" brains that permitted them to plan ahead, our ancestors spread throughout the world, replacing and/or assimilating earlier forms of humans.  This "Out of Africa" migration, according to linguistic and DNA studies, gave rise to all modern human populations.

What happened 70,000 years ago that caused this early dawn, this genesis of humanity as we now understand the word?  Was it a random mutation that spread rapidly among the population, or should we understand it as the morning our ancestors left the innocence of Eden?

That woodpecker may have to go!
contributed by Al Moffitt

Little Harold was practicing the violin in the living room while his father was trying to read in the den. The family dog was lying in the den, and as the screeching sounds of little Harold's violin reached his ears, he began to howl loudly.
The father listened to the dog and the violin as long as he could. Then he jumped up, slammed his paper to the floor and yelled above the noise, "For Pete's sake, can't you play something the dog doesn't know?!"
