Summer 2012 Internship Spotlight: BLAST (Bangladesh)

BLAST (Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust)is a leading legal services organization in Bangladesh, and the only one that provides access to legal aid across the spectrum, from the frontlines of the formal justice system to the apex court. It prioritizes support to women, men and children living in poverty or facing disadvantage or discrimination. It also provides legal aid, advice and representation across a range of areas, including civil, criminal, family, labor and land law, as well as on constitutional rights and remedies, providing access to judicial remedies alongside alternative dispute resolution wherever appropriate. Alongside individual legal aid, BLAST undertakes strategic litigation, or public interest litigation, as a key part of its advocacy for law and policy reforms to ensure effective legal protection of rights.

BLAST is looking for both a Public Interest Litigation and Advocacy Intern and a Legal Intern for Summer 2012.

Summer 2012 SAI Internship Spotlight:
Janaagraha Centre for Policy and Research (India)

Janaagraha is a non-profit organization based in Bangalore, India. It works with citizens and the government to improve the quality of life in Indian cities and towns. The term 'quality of life' as defined by Janaagraha has two distinct and inter-related aspects. The first examines 'quality of urban infrastructure and services' - the quality of urban of amenities, i.e., roads, drains, traffic, transport, water supply, etc. The second aspect is the 'quality of citizenship' - the role that urban residents play by participating in civic issues.

Janaagraha has three positions available for Harvard applicants: PROOF (Public Record of Operations and Finance) Support Executive, UCB (Urban Capacity Building) Support Executive, and Legal Support Associate - Advocacy Program.

The deadline is nearing - submit a brief to be highlighted at the SAI Education Symposium, January 23, 2012 in New Delhi, India!

Enhancing Quality and Access through Innovative Solutions  

 

Submissions should include at least one image showcasing your organization's work, an abstract of the work being done, and details either in a graph or other format highlighting the success and or reach of your organization.

Student Funding Opportunity

The South Asia Initiative (SAI) at Harvard University is pleased to offer an "Innovative Solutions" grant for groups of three or more Harvard students working on an entrepreneurial project in South Asia.

Funding is generously
provided by the Omidyar Network Fund, Inc.

Proposals considered for funding will include projects that immerse students in the problems of our age in South Asia and present innovative entrepreneurial attempts towards its solutions. Projects may take the form of a business plan, a plan to build a non-profit, a plan to create a regulatory intervention, etc., that solves a crisply stated, and significant, problem in a particular setting in South Asia.


This grant was developed in collaboration with the Fall 2011 Harvard survey course, 'Contemporary South Asia.'

Teach For India is a movement of outstanding graduates and young professionals who, in the short term, teach low-income group students full-time in under-resourced schools. In the long term, these Fellows will become global leaders and advocate for educational equity across India. There are nearly 400 Fellows teaching 12,000 students in 130 schools in Mumbai, Pune and Delhi.  

 

Teach For India is expanding to Hyderabad and Chennai in 2012, and is currently accepting applications for their Fellowship program.
