Spotlight on 'Teach for India,' a Summer 2012 SAI Internship site.
TFI logo

Teach for India (TFI), modeled after Teach for America, is a nation-wide movement launched in India in the year 2009.  Today, there are more than 400 Teach for India fellow teachers teaching more than 16,000 students in government and low-income private schools in 3 different cities across India and the organization is rapidly growing its base.

Vipul ShahaVipul Shaha, a SAI intern currently pursuing his Master's in Human Development and Psychology at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, was part of the first TFI cohort, and served as a Grade 3 and 4 class-teacher at a low-income private school in Pune in western India. Talking about his experience, Vipul says, "Teaching turned out to be a journey of self-transformation and the most fulfilling thing I have ever done."
