Asia Center Grants for Winter Recess Projects

 

The Asia Center is offering new grants of up to $1,500 for projects in East, South, and Southeast Asia, that will take place during the winter recess 2011-2012.

 

Eligible projects include, but are not limited to research, language study, internships, and volunteer work. Preference is given to projects that tie into the student's academic work at Harvard. 

 

 Deadline:

Monday, Dec 12, 2011.

Student Job Opportunity

HKS Program in Criminal Justice logo

The Harvard Program in Criminal Justice is seeking a responsible student with sharp attention to detail and fluency in both English and Bangla. This paid position requires a commitment of about 10 hours per month through to May 2012, with possibility of extension. 

In part, this position will  involve translating crime and justice data from Bangla to English. The selected student will directly contribute to important collaborative work between the Program and the justice sector in Bangladesh.

The HBS Club of Pakistan's annual event,
"Politics and Economics of Trade Agreements Made by Pakistan," 
was held November 24, 2011, at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Lahore.

The event, co-sponsored by the South Asia Initiative, brought together valuable academic and business community views on these trade agreements. Vice Chancellor of Lahore University of Management Sciences, Dr. Adil Najam, presented his work on the nature of regional trade agreements while the panel, comprising of leading business and Government figures, expressed their thoughts on the current economic situation, debated on Pakistan's foreign policy, and gave specific ideas for improving the future outlook of South Asia's regional economy.
 

The panel included leading business figures of Pakistan, Mr. Razzak Dawood and Mr. Mian Mohammad Mansha, eminent Government official and academician Dr. Ishrat Hussain and incumbent Secretary Commerce Mr. Zafar Mahmood. The event was attended by over 130 Harvard alumni from the business community as well as local NGO's, Pakistan government officers, academicians and students.
