Woman in Red Sari, credit: Sophia Angelis |
Angelis writes: "My experience in India was deeply formative. I worked, ate, commuted, shopped, cooked and lived with only Indians for ten weeks. That time couldn't have been more valuable for me. This picture represents an incredibly important take-away I got from my time overseas. "To me, the photograph "Woman in Red Sari," demonstrates the pervasiveness of tradition in Indian society. The woman in the picture is standing in the doorway of an ancient Hindu temple, carved out of the side of a mountain over a thousand years ago, dressed in a sari, a garment of clothing that has an even more ancient origin. |
