The Harvard Program in Criminal Justice is seeking a responsible student with sharp attention to detail and fluency in both English and Bangla. This paid position requires a commitment of about 10 hours per month through to May 2012, with possibility of extension. 

In part, this position will  involve translating crime and justice data from Bangla to English. The selected student will directly contribute to important collaborative work between the Program and the justice sector in Bangladesh.

"A Strategic Basic Assessment of the Ganges: New Insights into an Old Basin"

N. Harshadeep Rao, Senior Environmental Specialist, The World Bank 

 

 

 

Chaired by John Briscoe, Gordon McKay Professor of the Practice of Environmental Engineering, Harvard University

 

This presentation will present recent World Bank work on a Strategic Basin Assessment of the Ganges that collated and used available public-domain data and built bio-physical and economic modeling tools to explore various regional water resources development and climate scenarios of the Basin.  It will include a virtual overview of the Basin, an examination of major perceptions regarding the Basin's future, and new insights on these perceptions and where cooperation may actually be required.

Professor Shahab Ahmed, Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies, Harvard University, moderated the dialogue, which saw a vigours and involved process of questions, thoughts and remarks from the audience.
 
Nearly 40 students met with Prof. Roberto M. Unger, Roscoe Pound Professor of Law, Harvard Law School, to discuss the basic development strategy of Pakistan; the desirable institutional model, political as well as economic, that would support this strategy and be supported by it.  The dialogue went on to include the educational imperative in Pakistan and how to address it; and Pakistan's position in the world: in particular, its relation, to the United States, to India, and to China.
