Fred's Forecast

Happy New Year! Here we are in January, starting out a fresh, new year. The new year typically brings change, and we here at Morales Feed & Supply are experiencing change too! Carey Andersen, manager of the Lytle store has sold her house and is relocating back to Montana. We are sad to see her go and wish her the best, she will be missed! If Carey was working on a special program, or doing something for you, let us know! We are happy to continue this if you'll keep us posted. Dawn Long will be taking the lead as the manager for the Lytle Store. Dawn has been manager of the Devine store location and is a familiar face to many of our customers.
We have been blessed with much needed rain over the past 6 or 7 weeks, coming every few days. This is great for those of you that heeded the message and had faith to put down some rye grass. Much of the rye grass has greened up, benefiting those folks who put it out. The rye grass will take you into the spring much faster than other grasses, and allow you to have grazing earlier. Take advantage of this rain and get your pastures producing ASAP! We have rye and other grasses, call me at 210-416-6415 and we'll set you up.

Texas Agricultural and Timber Exemption Registration
Beginning Jan. 1, 2012, a person claiming an exemption from sales tax on the purchase of certain items used in the production of agricultural and timber products is required to have a Texas Agriculture and Timber Exemption Registration Number.
For our customers to continue claiming their sales tax exemption, it is imperative this exemption registration be completed. See the State of Texas website for more information. Our staff will be available to help you with this process if you have any questions or concerns.

Cold Weather Colic in Horses
Cold winds and changing winter weather may not seem like contributing factors for equine colic. However, these conditions can foster changes in routine and eating habits that many affect the well being of your horse.

Who Are You? Identifying Backyard Birds
Next month is the Great Backyard Bird Count and it's not too early to research the birds in your area.
When you first notice the bright-colored yellow and black bird in your yard, all you can do is admire it. However, when you learn that the bird is an Evening Grosbeak, you'll know that a simple tube feeder with Black-oil Sunflower seeds will keep him coming back. Being able to identify the birds that frequent your yard can make you a better host by offering the right type of bird feeder and food or planting the right types of shrubs and plants.
