Dry Weather & Hay Our dry weather continues and what little pasture grass left is thin. If you are using hay, be mindful of the weight of the bales you purchase. Try to purchase the heaviest bales at the most economical price. Sometimes "cheaper" prices mean "lighter" bales. Also, higher quality hay means you can feed less. Alfalfa hay is a supplement to coastal hay. If costs are a concern, alfalfa hay is typically cheaper than pellets. Minerals are Important! With this hot, dry weather and the lack of grass, mineral supplements are vital! A good mineral program is important to the body condition score of your cattle.
