MONTGOMERY HEALTH FAIR

If you are feeling a little under the weather or are feeling right as rain and want to keep it that way, come to the Montgomery Village Hall for a free Health Fair.  The Kidney Mobile will be giving out free tests for blood pressure and blood sugar.  Other tests and private consultations will also be available.  Free food and several informational booths including banks, rehab cente4rs, insurance companies and many other types will also be present to provide information as needed.

Lilne Dancing
CONCERT IN THE PARK & LINE DANCE LESSONS!
6:30 pm/ Montgomery Park - Corner of Mill Street and River Road
Grab those cowboy boots and head on down to  Montgomery Park.  Professional Instructor, Cathy Vary will provide an hours' worth of country dancin' practice to anyone who wants to learn.  People of all ages are welcome. Cathy Vary gives beginner and intermediate lessons at Saddle Up & Dance Saloon in Aurora every Wednesday and Friday at 7:30 pm. Country line dancing is easy and fun -- and you don't even need a partner.

 

An open air concert featuring country music by Smokin' Gunz, a top 40 band voted best country rock band in 2011, will follow at 7:30 pm in the park. Smokin' Gunz plays all the top country favorites, including oldies as well as current hits.  They also write some original music based on personal experiences.  More information about Smokin' Gunz from Schaumburg can be found at http://www.smokinggunz.net/.

 

Come early to learn a new step or two, then dance in the street during the concert!

FREE CHILD SAFETY SEAT CHECK
9 am - 12 Noon (First come first serve & cut off will be at 12 pm)/ Target Parking Lot - 3020 Route 34, Oswego, IL
Proper use of a child restraint can lower a child's risk of injury or death in most car crashes.  AutoSmart and Target are hosting this event. Montgomery Police Officers and other Certified child passenger safety technicians will instruct parents and caregivers on proper use and installation of child restraints.
Over 90% of child car seats are installed or used incorrectly!

ENGRAVED STONE PAVERS AVAILABLE FOR SALE
Pavers purchased by June 30th will be laid this summer in a walkway around the historic Settler's Cottage on the site of the Montgomery Village Hall.  Families and businesses can leave their permanent mark on Montgomery by purchasing a brick engraved with their own name or in memory of a love one. 

Two sizes are available:
  • 4" by 7" for $100 - up to three lines of engraving
  • 7: by 8: for $200 - up to four lines of engraving

Pavers may be purchased after June 30th, but will be installed at a later date.

 

Montgomery's Historic Preservation Commission is sponsoring the sale of these pavers as a fundraising project for the restoration of Settlers' Cottage and other historic preservation projects.  For more information, please contact Debbie Buchanan at 630-896-8080 ext. 1114 or visit the Village website: www.ci.montgomery.il.us.

ABOUT THE ALICE SUTCLIFF MEMORIAL GOLF CLASSIC & SCHOLARSHIP FUND...

 

Alice Sutcliff founded the GMACC in 1999.  In honor of her many years of involvement with both the chamber and the community, our annual golf outing has been renamed to reflect her lifelong commitment to the Village. A portion of the proceeds from this new Golf Classic will go into a Scholarship fund to help Montgomery residents obtain a college education. The first allocation of scholarship funds will be available in Spring, 2013.

▪ The IRS reminds those that have requested an installment agreement that the IRS is still mandated by law to notify them with a first notice of the full amount due (Notice - CP 014), even if the installment agreement is accepted and in place.

▪ SCAM ALERT. Scam e-mails are targeting military members, retirees and civilian employees, purportedly coming from the Defense Finance and Accounting Services. The emails indicate that individuals who are receiving disability compensation from the VA may be able to obtain additional funds from the IRS. These emails are not issued by DFAS.  Do not send your personal information or copies of your tax returns to the individual listed in the email. 

▪ For reporting on Form 1099-K - Merchant Card and Third Party Network Payments, use the date of the reportable payment transaction. For payment card transactions, use the date the merchant accepted the payment card. For third-party network transactions, use the date the merchant accepted payment through a third-party payment network. For more information about Forms 1099-K and other payment card issues, visit the Third Party Reporting Information Center.

 IR 12-60  Individuals and businesses are encouraged to safeguard themselves against natural disasters by taking a few simple steps.

 Notice 12-38 soliciting public comments andprovides guidance on the use of smartcards, debit or credit cards, or other electronic media to provide qualified transportation fringes.

 Notice 12-40 provides guidance on the effective date of the $2,500 limit on salary reduction contributions to health flexible spending arrangements (health FSAs).

 Get the Small Business Help You Need, For Free!  Have a great idea for a new business, but don't know where to get started? USA.gov's small business section  has the information you need:
  • The Small Business Administration (SBA) can help you with management, technical, and training issues, or help you find your loan and funding options from multiple government organizations. The SBA app helps you find local advisers who can give you free one-on-one help for growing your business. Use the calculator to figure out costs of starting a new business, and catch up on all the news through SBA's social media channels.
  • Visit the newly created Business.USA.gov to find the small business tools available to you from across the government. Partner agencies such as the Department of Commerce and the Department of Labor share all their business resources in one spot, plus you can find out about state and local business outreach and development events.

The Chamber's Ambassadors are members who volunteer their time in order to provide an invaluable link between the Chamber and the Community. They will ensure that all GMACC Members receive the maximum benefits from their investment.
