Greetings! Hey, everyone!
Lots of new names on the mailing list this month! As always, welcome to all first-time readers and thanks again for coming out to one of our workshops or stopping by the office to see us.
This month's articles are a two-parter that Global gave us about the implications of the Dodd-Frank Financial Reform Act. It's a very important piece of legislation that'll affect the entire financial system and also affect many people's lives, so it's worth it to read the articles and perhaps do your research on the topic. Jim is always open to answering any questions about it; he's gotten pretty familiar with the legislation as it's gone through Congress.
We don't have the upcoming Lake Norman Magazine article this month because the proof is still being finalized. It should still be ready to go to print in a couple weeks, though, so keep your eyes peeled for the July issue of the magazine!

The Dodd-Frank Act: The Battle is On! - Part 1
Thought for the Week, April 30, 2012 |
Capitol Hill is currently witnessing an intense war for control of the U.S. financial system. In our opinion, the outcome of this conflict is so important to the future prosperity of our country's investors, we are devoting two consecutive installments of our Weekly scribbling to outline what's happening.
Like any good story, there's a subtext to this war. It's really a story of the battle between Good and Evil. Unfortunately, the final chapters of this story have yet to be published. Hopefully this instills in the reader a desire to follow the saga to the end and draw their own conclusion as to who is good and who is evil.

The Dodd-Frank Act: The Battle is On! - Part 2
Thought for the Week, May 7, 2012 |
Last week, we outlined the aims of the Dodd-Frank Act and the battle being waged against it by Wall Street's "too big to fail" banks. While we expect the final Act to be much delayed and watered down, we are hopeful that one of its most important components, The Volcker Rule, will have a more immediate effect in "leveling the playing field" between retail investors and big finance. Of course, one way all investors can level their own playing field and get a fairer deal immediately is to vote with their feet:
- Research the Dodd-Frank Act and The Volcker Rule.
- Ask yourself, "is my financial advice provider really engaging in the activities this legislation intends bringing an end to? Are my personal accounts and investments affected in any way?"
- At the risk of bringing politics into the Weekly Thought, reach out to your own representatives and ask them if they support or oppose the legislation.
