Obedience Tip:  Try something new this winter!

If you haven't discovered CDSP obedience or the AKC optional titling classes, now is the perfect time.

CDSP is growing by leaps and bounds throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest and New England for lots of reasons.  While precision is expected and scored, CDSP is a more natural style of obedience because handlers are allowed to praise and encourage their dogs during most of the exercises.  There are no group stays in any class.  Each class has the 'standard' exercises but with a challenging twist; for example, the Novice class Figure 8 is done off-leash, the Open class has a running broad jump and a go-out, turn and sit and the Utility class has a two part directed retrieve.  Championship titles can be earned in all the classes as well. Dogs with disabilities are allowed to participate and jump height modifications are allowed.  For more information on CDSP Obedience, go to www.companiondogsportsprogram.com.

The AKC optional titling classes are a wonderful way to keep your dog busy and successful in the ring as you train for the next level of competition.  Beginner Novice is a nice transition from the Rally ring to Novice, Graduate Novice bridges the gap between Novice and Open and Graduate Open is a fun way to make the leap from Open to Utility.  For more information, go to www.akc.org.
Hunt Test Tips will return next month.  Till then, here's Rudy's thoughts on this broken thumb.....
