November 2011
Dear ,

Fall seems to be pulling a fast one on us with eighty degree temperatures, but regardless the season is changing.  Just as the seasons change, so does one's personal and business life.  Maybe you've recently gotten married or experienced the birth of your first child.  Maybe you've made a large equipment purchase for your business or relocated your business to a new location.  Life brings us many changes both personal and professional.  It is important to be prepared and you can count on the experienced staff of SME CPAs to help guide you through the right tax and accounting strategies for the seasons of your life.

Contact our firm if you have any questions and we will be happy to help you create your history, not just record it.

Marketing Tip from Jessica Neville Yoder

Wouldn't it be great to have someone whose job was to represent the local business community and promote legislation that encourages growth and creates opportunities? And wouldn't it be fantastic if there were chances to get to know your colleagues in a laid back environment to discuss business and interests outside of business? What if you had the chance to hear well-known and educated speakers share their knowledge and experience with you and possibly solve a challenge you've been dealing with for some time? All of this and much, much more is possible through joining your local Chamber of Commerce. The sole purpose of any Chamber is to connect businesspeople and provide resources for success, as well as represent local business as a whole on the political front. I am not here to tell you to join a certain Chamber. I am encouraging you to just join a Chamber. Membership with a Chamber of Commerce is an investment that will prove to be continually beneficial to any company.

Technology Tip from Paul Wade

Internet security seems to be ever increasing in importance as we conduct more and more of our life over the web. Our personal and financial information is frequently at risk as we surf the net. A big part of internet security is having robust, individual passwords for every website that requires a login. Logo

Recommendations for password strength often include at least 12 random digits including letters, numbers and characters. While there are mnemonics out there that can help you create and remember such passwords, why not make technology do the work.

RoboForm Everywhere is a password manager program that creates robust passwords and stores them for easy access on any computer, tablet, or smart phone. With one master password, you can literally access hundreds of individual passwords for every website login you use. If you aren't interested in paying $20 per year for this software, then try the free version. The free version will store up to 10 passwords that you can use for your most sensitive logins.

Thanks for taking the time to read our newsletter.  Stay tuned for next month's tips and features.

Sincerely,

Serotta Maddocks Evans, CPAs
