Required e-filing for Individuals and Fiduciaries for Tax year 2010

Your 2010 individual and fiduciary tax organizers are on their way to you!

With the tax filing season upon us, there are some changes that will impact tax filers as well as tax preparers.  New tax legislation requires SME to file individual and fiduciary returns electronically.  Many of you already file electronically.  If you haven't done so in the past, let me explain how it works.

    1.       We prepare your return as usual.

   2.     When you pick up your return, instead of the federal and state(s) filing copies with envelopes to mail the returns in, you will receive federal and state e-file Signature Authorization forms.

     3.      You review your return and, if it meets with your approval, sign the e-file forms.

     4.      You must return the e-file forms to our office.  This authorizes us to send the return electronically.  We can't file the return until we have your signed authorization to do so.

     5.      If there is a balance due, you will receive a payment voucher and envelope in which to mail the payment.  There is nothing else to mail.  The return can be electronically filed any time after it is complete and the payment can be made at a later time as long as it is postmarked by the due date.

Your tax preparer will be happy to answer any questions you may have about this requirement or the actual e-file process.  Look for your organizer in the mail, fill it out and get your information to us.    Call us at 706-722-5337 if you have questions or need an appointment.  We are ready to get started!
