October 2010:  Don't Let December 31 Sneak up on You
Dear ,
The month of October brings a refreshing breath of cooler temperatures and the beautiful color of fall.  It also reminds us of our childhood memories of the fun and excitement over the tricks and treats of Halloween.

The cool temperatures of fall also alert us to the fact that another year end is fast approaching.  The signaling of year end should alert us to insure that we have a clear vision of how we plan to end the year from a financial perspective.  It is time to finalize those plans for the year of 2010.  Do not hesitate to contact us at SME to assist you in completing your vision for the results of 2010.

Don't let the days of October slip away without finalizing your plan for how you want to finish the year.  Make sure that your year ends with the treat of a well designed ending in mind and not a trick of fate that ends in a scary tax bill on April 15th.

Marketing Tip from Jessica Neville

The landing...

When your customers click through to your website via a link from a search engine site, an email signature, or a Facebook status, how much work does it take for them to find the information you promised?  Where your customers 'land' after they click your link is crucial to the buying process.

Whether you are a business-to-consumer or business-to-business organization, leading your viewers on a scavenger hunt to find the information you say you have on your site can be hurtful to your internet marketing as a whole.  Accurate landing pages can boost your conversion rates and help build trust, credibility, and your brand.  If you tell a customer about a seminar you are offering, and then send them to your homepage, chances are they will click around for a few seconds looking for the information, and then give up and move on.  Instead, direct the link to the page that has the seminar information and bypass the homepage and the extra clicks.

This marketing blog discusses more about landing pages and how successful landing pages...

  • help the user.
  • fulfill promises.
  • are specific, consistent and respectful.
  • signal credibility.
  • look professional.
Technology Tip from Paul Wade

In today's business world, technology continues to become increasingly important in helping businesses achieve their goals. Here at SME, we use dozens of software products to help us provide various accounting, auditing and tax services for our clients. It's a constant struggle to make sure we are managing technology at the office and getting the biggest bang for our buck with all the new software and products out there.

How well do your business goals align with your IT strategies? At SME we've implemented a Technology Advisory Group that is responsible for keeping the goals of the firm aligned with our IT strategies. Among other things, the duties of this group include identifying, prioritizing and implementing IT projects that will position our firm to be more efficient and provide better service to our clients.

Is your business maximizing the benefit you are receiving from your technology investments? If not, maybe your business could benefit from such a committee or such an approach.

Thanks for taking the time to read our newsletter.  Stay tuned for next month's tips and features.

Sincerely,

Serotta Maddocks Evans & Co., CPA's
