September 2010:  Who's Your Team?
Dear ,

With school back in session and temperatures dropping into the lower 90's, that can only mean one thing: college football season is back! And with a new season comes very high expectations for all our favorite teams. Whether or not those expectations are met, we can only wait and see.

When you chose your CPA, I bet you had very high expectations.  Have those expectations been met? Do you only hear from your CPA once a year in March or April? Here at SME, we believe frequent client contact is the only way to truly understand our clients' needs and then satisfy them.

Don't settle for low expectations from your CPA. Choose SME, set your expectations high, and then let us meet or beat them. And of course, good luck to your favorite college football team this fall.

NetWeaving 101...

Within the first few months of being an SME employee I had to make a presentation to the entire staff at the firm's annual retreat.  I started reading some blogs and doing some research and discovered an article on this term:  netweaving.   The basic objective I got from the article is this:  to try to help as many people as you can.  Learn all you can from as many people as possible about their businesses, their needs, and their challenges and connect them with the right person who can help them.  Recently I discovered

this website.

Often people will refer to me as a "name dropper"; but in essence my brain is processing who this new person is, who we know in common and how we can help each other.  I took the "NetWeavers Aptitude Assessment" that is offered on the above site and learned I am a "Natural Netweaver".  That sounds much better than "name dropper"!  Wouldn't you agree?  Where do you stand on the assessment?  Take it and find out!

The art of reciprocity is often overlooked or forgotten with everyone's fast-paced lifestyle; but doing good things for others can and will repay you many times over.  SME CPA's is constantly developing this concept and putting it to use with our clients and referral sources.  We hope that you adopt a "pay it forward" motto too!

SME's new portal...

Staying ahead of the times is important, especially when it comes to technology.  Every day new gadgets and applications become available for individuals and businesses.  At SME, we like to keep up with the times.  This email newsletter is one way we are doing this.  Another way is through our new Client Web Portal.  What is a client web portal you ask?  A web portal is a secure, single sign-on access point used for secure file transfers between SME and our clients. The portal is a web-based interface that doesn't require downloading or installing any additional applications in order to use it.  We will use our portal to send and receive files, which will ensure that important documents are transferred in a secure manner.  We will use the portal to give clients access to copies of their tax returns, send and receive QuickBooks data files, receive documentation to be used to prepare tax returns, etc.  We expect this additional service to make file transfers more convenient and timely for our clients.  If you want to be set up to send and receive documents via the client web portal, please contact your accountant.

Thanks for taking the time to read our newsletter.  Stay tuned for next month's tips and features.

Sincerely,

Serotta Maddocks Evans & Co., CPA's
