July 2010:  HOT OFF THE PRESS!

Dear ,

Welcome to SME's first monthly email newsletter. If you're like me, you receive a lot of emails! Obviously the ones from your family take first priority (unless they're one of those jokes that's been forwarded a hundred times). The ones from customers and clients are your next priority. You never know...they may want to make a $1,000,000 order! And then there's everything else. We all have those emails that we say we'll go back and read later when we have more time but we never really do and they eventually get deleted.

Our goal is to give you information you can use each month in a brief format. There will be tax tips, tech tips, marketing tips, an SME employee feature and info about upcoming events at our firm.  We want you to know what SME is all about..."Services that go beyond the expected."

So, please don't send us to the "deleted" bin!!! We want to be one of those emails that you actually read. Thanks for letting us into your "in-box."

Marketing Tip from Rebecca Best

The name "elevator pitch" reflects the idea that it should be possible to deliver a message in the time it takes to ride in an elevator, or approximately thirty seconds to two minutes.  When working on developing new clients an elevator pitch is often used to summarize professional services and get your point across quickly.

What goes into an elevator pitch?  Here's the breakdown:
(1. Introduction)  This includes your name, company and position.  You may also state 2-3 products or services you offer.
(2. Share a Story) What makes you different from your competition?  Share a specific, recent story that illustrates a successful outcome you have produced.  Share what makes you unique.
(3. Ask for the Business) A good referral for me is fill in the blank and be very specific.
(4. Call to Action) "So if you see/hear/know of ___________ please give him/her my card."
(5. Tagline) Finish with something that others will remember about you.  This could be your own personal tagline or your company's tagline.  Remember to restate your name and company.

Technology Tip from Sharon Bragg
Replacement laptop batteries can cost between $100 and $300; so you need to get all the use you can from your battery.  Here are a couple of easy ways to extend your battery life:

1.  At least once a month, let the laptop run  on battery power until the battery is drained and then re-charge it.  This is especially useful if your laptop usually runs on external power.
2.  Extreme high or low temperatures can cause battery degradation.  Don't leave your laptop in your car for extended periods on hot days or overnight on cold nights.

Thanks for taking the time to read our newsletter.  Stay tuned for next month's tips and features.

Sincerely,
