CNO Student Taylor Woodley Discusses The Dartmouth Native Fly-In
|
Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire is considered one of the top universities in the U.S. As one of the eight Ivy League schools - standing alongside Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, Brown, and University of | | Taylor Woodley at Dartmouth Native Fly-In |
Pennsylvania - Dartmouth offers a tremendous education program that prepares students to launch into their future.
While there are countless attributes that set Dartmouth apart from so many other schools in the country, one of the most exciting aspects of Dartmouth is their commitment to the Native American community. Dartmouth's Native American Program is focused on bringing Native American students to the school and preparing them to become future leaders. One of the primary ways the school goes about beginning this process is through the Dartmouth Native Fly-In.
The Dartmouth Native Fly-In takes place each fall, when Dartmouth brings about 50 Native American students from across the country to the campus for several days of interaction and learning among the Dartmouth faculty, student body, and Native American community.
Among the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma students who recently attended the program was Taylor Woodley. "When I was accepted [into the program], it really made me see my options that the Native aspect can help me have," Taylor said. "When I went, I felt very comfortable and made friends very quickly. [Friends that] I still talk to!"

It Is Not Too Late To Take Extension Courses From Some Of The Nation's Top Schools.
|
Extension programs let students study in a manner that centers mainly around online classes and evening courses, with flexible scheduling and other necessary concessions. Because full-time university attendance is more difficult for some students, extension programs are highly beneficial tools, but they are widely under-publicized. In fact, extension programs are under-publicized to such an extent that many adults for whom extension programs would be a terrific option have no clue what an extension program is.
Extension programs are offered by many of the larger schools around the country, focusing on generally non-traditional students - those individual students who meet any of the following criteria:
- Attends school part-time
- Works full-time while attending school
- Delayed enrollment in higher education
- Is a single parent
- Has dependents other than their spouse
Although the ideas of "online classes" and "evening courses" are not foreign to most of us, what is surprising is some of the schools that offer extension courses...and that do so under the radar! Read More |
Kyle Tolbert: Small Schools vs. Big Schools
|
As I approached the end of high school and began to prepare for the next step in my life, I realized that a lot of my classmates were choosing a college based on things that made very little sense. Some of them were picking a college because it was the school their parents had attended. | Kyle Tolbert chose a small school |
Others were choosing a college simply because they were a fan of that school's sports teams. And some students were picking a college just because they had heard the name of that college more often than they had heard about others!
When I started to narrow down the choices for myself, I realized that every different college offers different things to their students. I wanted to make sure I picked a college that was not only a good school, but that was the right school for me.
While there are a lot of ways to start separating colleges into categories, I figured that one of the easiest ways was to split schools into these two categories: Small Schools and Large Schools. Read More |
