The Drum Awards program begins with a 6:00 p.m. dinner with awards presentation scheduled for 7:00 p.m.  The CNO Scholarship Advisement Program (SAP) has been chosen to receive the Education Award at the Drum Awards ceremony.

SAP focuses on college preparation and retention for Choctaw students and strives to support and encourage college bound students to set and achieve high goals and standards. The Education Award honors outstanding educators or programs that instill wisdom, impart knowledge and contribute to the growth of Native American communities.

"We are very excited to receive the Education Award, from the inaugural Drum Awards Program" says Jo McDaniel, SAP Director.  "This is a validation of everything we've been working for from providing test preparation to guiding students towards the best choices in higher education and a rewarding career."

The Drum Awards is a national program recognizing both individuals and tribes whose contributions have gone largely unrecognized by the average American and Native American tribes.  The awards are designed to build prestige for Native Americans and to promote a healthy sense of worth through first-class treatment of one another.

Winners of this year's Drum awards are:
  • HEALTH AND SCIENCE AWARD - John Herrington
  • LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - Wilma Mankiller
  •  TRIBAL GOVERNANCE AWARD - John Echohawk
  • ENVIRONMENT & CULTURE AWARD - Billy Franks
  • ECONOMIC SELF RELIANCE AWARD - Ladonna Harris
  • DEFENSE OF SOVEREINTY AWARD - Ron Allen
  • ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT AWARD - Wes Studi
  • PATRIOTISM AWARD - Choctaw Code Talkers
  • EDUCATION AWARD - Choctaw Nation Scholarship Advisement Program
