Columbia University
| |
Columbia University is a coeducational Ivy League school located in New York City, New York. Columbia was founded in 1754 as King's College by royal charter of King George II of Great Britain. It later changed its name to Columbia College and then Columbia University.
Columbia's campus is in the heart of the city with the main part of the campus occupying 32 acres in picturesque Morningside Heights. The university has three undergraduate institutions: Columbia College, the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the School of General Studies. The university also has 13 graduate and professional schools and a school of continuing education. Although all of its schools enjoy excellent reputations, the university's business school, law school, and medicine school are ranked among the top in the country.

The University of California at Berkeley

Berkeley is the flagship campus of the University of
California. The school was founded in Berkeley, California, in 1868 when two colleges merged. The school is often called simply Berkeley, Cal-Berkeley, or
UC Berkeley.
Berkeley is considered one of the top public universities in
the world, and its graduates and faculty have won many prestigious awards. Faculty,
researchers, and graduates of Berkeley have won 65 Nobel Prizes, 69 Academy
Awards, and seven Pulitzer Prizes along with numerous other awards and honors. Some
of the university's famous alumni include Earl Warren, Steven Chu, Steve
Wozniak, Gregory Peck, and Robert McNamara.

Johns Hopkins University
| Located in Baltimore, Maryland, Johns Hopkins is a private
research university. Johns Hopkins University was founded in 1876 and has been
a model for most large research universities in the country. It is the first
American university to teach through seminars as well as the first to offer
undergraduate majors. In addition to campuses in Washington D.C. and Maryland,
the university also has campuses in Singapore, China, and Italy.
Johns Hopkins University is particularly noted for its
strength in medicine, science, and engineering. Research is paramount at Johns
Hopkins with more than 80% of the undergraduates conducting some kind of
independent research. One of the oldest nursing schools in the country was
started at Johns Hopkins. It is also one of the largest university recipients
of federal grants for research. Even though its humanities programs do not get
the research funding that its medical and engineering departments do, they are
still considered excellent. Its extensive research also means that Johns
Hopkins University is one of the most cited universities in the world. Read More

The University of Pennsylvania

The University of Pennsylvania, also known as UPenn, is a
coeducational Ivy League university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The
university was founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1740 and is located in an area
of West Philadelphia known as University City, several miles from downtown
Philadelphia.
UPenn has four undergraduate schools as well as a number of
graduate programs and interdisciplinary programs. All of University of
Pennsylvania's 12 schools are within walking distance of each other. The
geographic unity is unique among the Ivy League universities and is indicative
of UPenn's interdisciplinary approach to education. The university is noted for
its expansive lawns and beautiful architecture. The architecture of many of the
buildings is in the style of Collegiate Gothic. In addition to the main campus,
the University of Pennsylvania owns the Morris Arboretum, located on 92 acres
in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Northwestern University Graduate School

Northwestern University has devoted many resources to its extensive graduate programs. In all there are almost 7,900 post graduate students at Northwestern spread across a wide variety of academic programs. The Graduate School offers programs leading to several degrees including master of arts (MA), master of fine arts (MFA), master of public health (MPH), master of science (MS) and doctor of philosophy (PhD) degrees in over 70 subjects. In addition there are also certificate programs available in subjects where a degree is not yet available.

Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences

The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences at Yale offers many programs that lead t o a Master of Arts, Science, or Philosophy degree as well as a PhD. Around 6,300 of the 11,500 students at Yale are in some type of graduate program. A total of 2,655 are enrolled in Arts & Sciences making it the largest graduate program at Yale. With such a great proportion of students in graduate programs it is no surprise that Yale has devoted many of its human and physical resources towards serving this sector.
