Ivy Attendee List Reaches 32

Undergrad and Grad Schools Boost 2010 Ivy League & Friends Attendee List - Students Should Pre-Register Now

In late 2008, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) Scholarship Advisement ivylogoProgram (SAP) hosted Harvard University in Durant, OK in order to give CNO students the chance to meet with one of America's greatest universities.  The event drew more than 100 students and parents.

In 2009, the prior year's Harvard event was expanded and renamed  Ivy League and Friends.  Nine of the nation's best academic institutions attended an evening long affair with more than 300 CNO students and parents from across the nation.

Evidently the news of the past two years recruiting sessions has reached America's leading academic institutions that actively recruit diversity candidate students.   The 2010 Ivy League & Friends attendee list has now reached 32 of the nation's most prestigious educational bodies.  The list not only includes top undergraduate programs, but also numerous graduate schools, and top Native American higher education entities for an expanded all-day affair on Saturday November 6th at the Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant, OK.

According to SAP staff, the message to CNO students and their parents is clear.  In three short years, Ivy League and Friends has become a premiere Native American recruiting venue for United States colleges and universities who are serious about attracting diversity candidates.

College - and graduate school bound - CNO students should not miss this chance to learn more about the opportunities available to them to set and reach higher goals.  Visit the Ivy Updates  page on SAP's Web site to learn  more and to register now for Ivy League and Friends 2010.

American Indian
Graduate Center

Scholarships/Fellowships for
Native American Graduate Study

The American Indian Graduate Center (AIGC) is a national organization headquartered in AIGC LogoAlbuquerque, New Mexico providing educational assistance to American Indian and Alaska native graduate students throughout the country. Since its founding in 1969, AIGC has awarded more than 15,000 scholarships totaling over $44 million to graduate students in all fields of study.  AIGC is an organization that the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) Scholarship Advisement Program (SAP) recommends highly to all its members.

AIGC was founded because important government positions related to Indian concerns were being filled by non-Indians who possessed the graduate education necessary to meet the job qualifications. Knowing that Indian people need financial assistance to complete their graduate work, AIGC's founders established American Indian Scholarships (AIS) which later evolved into AIGC. It is still the only national non-profit organization dedicated to aiding Indian graduate students in all fields of study.

Each year, the AIGC fellowship program provides $1,200,000 in fellowships to over 350 Native American and Alaska Native graduate students.  Graduate fellowships are monetary awards made to American Indian and Alaska Native graduate or professional degree-seeking students, who meet all eligible criteria.  The United States Bureau of Indian Education federally funds the fellowship program.  The fellowship amount is typically between $1,000 and $5,000 per academic year (not including summer), and varies from year to year, depending on the availability of funds and unmet financial need.

Rhode Island School of Design To Attend Ivy League & Friends

RISD considered the best fine arts
college in the nation

The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) is one of many academic institutions attending Ivy League and Friends 2010.  Located in Providence, Rhode Island, RISD is a fine arts and design college founded in 1877 with funds left over from a fundraising event put on by the Centennial Women. The school is located right next to Brown University at the foot of College Hill. Brown University often collaborates with the Rhode Island School of Design, and they even offer joint classes. The Rhode Island School of Design usually has about 1,920 undergraduates and 370 graduate students from the United States and 44 other countries.

RISD is considered the best fine arts college in the country, accepting only 35% of applying students. The application process for the Rhode Island School of Design is rigorous; applying students having to take the infamous home test. The home test requires students to complete three drawings with a graphite pencil, including the bicycle drawing. The bicycle is incorporated into this drawing in many ways with some applicants taking a realistic approach while others portray it abstractly. Additionally, applicants also need to submit a portfolio of their work for review.
