Welcome to the latest issue of SAP News, the online newsletter of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) Scholarship Advisement Program (SAP).  SAP News is the place for the latest information about events and opportunities for CNO scholars and their parents.

Leading With Diligence Scholarship - Submit to SAP by Sept. 10.


$1,000 Award

The Leading with Diligence Scholarship is a $1000.00 scholarship offered through the Choctaw Nation Scholarship Advisement Program. This scholarship was created and is funded by United States Corps Captain David Dixon. The scholarship will be available to a Choctaw student who plans to enter a field of public service after graduation. The preferred fields are those dealing with national security or diplomacy such as the military, State Department, FBI, and CIA. Preference will be given to a freshman male. This scholarship is a onetime award. 

You must be enrolled in SAP, have a completed profile and submit a short essay describing your background and why you are interested in government service and specify which field you are interested in entering.

Tvshka Chunkash (Heart of a Warrior) Scholarship

$1,000 Award

The Tvshka Chunkash Scholarship is a $1000.00 scholarship offered through the Choctaw Nation Scholarship Advisement Program. Choctaw NationTvshka Chunkash Tribal members who are enrolled in SAP and are attending an accredited college or university are eligible to apply. The award is given on behalf of the veterans of the Afghan and Iraq wars. This scholarship is a onetime award.  

The applicant must submit a 500 word essay on how the war in Afghanistan or Iraq has affected their life and educational goals. Click here to download and print the essay guidelines.  All submissions are due to SAP by September 10, 2010.

Email to scholarshipadvisement@choctawnation.com; essays that are not submitted electronically will not be accepted. This scholarship will be awarded at the beginning of the school year and the recipient will be recognized at the Choctaw Nation Veteran's Day Ceremony on November 11th in Tuskahoma, OK. Inter Tribal Council of AT&T Employees Scholarship

$1,000 Award


The Inter-Tribal Council of AT&T Employees (ICAE) has developed the 2010 Fall Scholarship Program as a way of reaching back into local communitiesICAE logo to financially assist distinguished students in continuing their higher education.

The ICAE Scholarship Program will issue scholarship grants to qualified applicants who are selected primarily for their individual merit.  Eligibility requirements will be used to initially screen applications prior to the actual review process.  High School students accepted at, or College students enrolled full-time in an accredited undergraduate program are eligible to apply.  Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents.

Those selected from the eligible applications postmarked by September 10, 2010, will receive $1000.00 in award money to use towards his or her higher education. Previous recipients are eligible to re-apply.

Washington Internships for Native Students (WINS)


Washington Internships for Native Students (WINS) offers students of sovereign American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian nations the opportunityWINS logo to build leadership skills while living, studying, and interning in Washington, DC. The program is offered free of charge to eligible students through a scholarship grant funded by American University

The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) Scholarship Advisement Program (SAP) strongly recommends CNO scholars take advantage of this great opportunity to live, learn, and intern in Washington, DC with WINS, hosted at American University.  An on-line application is available at https://applyws.american.edu/applications/.

If selected for this capital city program, the sponsoring internship organization will pay for your tuition, books, housing, meal plan, transportation cost, and a small living stipend while working in Washington, DC. 

WINS is currently seeking students who may have interest in working within the Social Security Administration.  The ideal applicant would have a strong interest or experience in the following areas:  public policy, communications, budget and finance, IT, and/or cultural diversity.  .

Williams College to Attend Ivy League and Friends


Also Offers Windows On Williams Fly-In Program


The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) Scholarship Advisement Program (SAP) is pleased to announce that Williams College will be among the growing list of colleges recruiting CNO scholars at this year's Ivy League and Friends - Choctaw Student Recruitment event Nov. 6 at the Choctaw Resort Hotel in Durant, OK. 

But this isn't your only opportunity to learn more about this top-ranked liberal arts college.  Williams is offering students the chance to visit their campus and experience the school firsthand.   

Williams also advises SAP scholars to look into its Windows on Williams (WOW) program, a fly-in event which provides all expense paid opportunities for high school seniors from underrepresented/low-income backgrounds to visit the college. 

The WOW program will take place two times this Fall: The first program is Sept. 30th - Oct. 2nd.  The second program is scheduled for Oct. 21st - Oct. 23rd.  Please click here to download and print the WOW application.  (Note:  while the application deadline says August 20th, Williams accepts applications year-round.)
