There were 10 Choctaw students among the 29 Native American students who attended the two-day college-prep event.
Planning for college can be an overwhelming task and starting the process early definitely makes the job easier. That's one reason why SAP strongly encourages CNO scholars to attend college admission workshops as part of their college preparation and planning process.
The University of Tulsa based Pre-College Workshop for Native American Students was designed to give high school students the tools and knowledge needed to navigate their way through the complex college admission process. Native American students from Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska who had completed their freshman, sophomore or junior year of high school were eligible to apply.
From Sunday through Tuesday, students were given instruction covering a wide range of college prep topics including test preparation, creating a student resume, the application process, how admission decisions are made, scholarship opportunities, researching colleges - and more. A Native American history lecture given by Mr. Brian Hosmer, a TU professor, simulated an actual college class experience.
