Greetings!
 ~ Labor Day Weekend ~
Time for family, relaxation, and an old fashioned cook-out!

Vegetable Kabobs
Vegetable kabobs, anyone?

Our longtime readers know I don't cook and that I have trouble naming all of the wonderful vegetables found right here in my own backyard at the Market ~ but that doesn't mean I don't try!  Just that I need it to be easy.  And fast.  And fun if at all possible.  Did I say easy?

Well, kabobs of any sort fit the bill to a tee.  Ready for my 5-step plan?
  1. Walk around the Market and buy at least 5 different vegetables from 5 different growers (C'mon! Spread the money around.  They ALL work very hard and it's more fun this way.)
  2. Go visit Stuart with Pastamore in the first pavilion (that's the one by the big chicken), to buy one of his marinades.  If you really don't know what to get, just ask.  He's patient and nice and pairing flavors and food for him is a piece of cake.  Ooh.  Cake.  That would be nice for dessert...

    Anyway, back to the list:
  3. Wash vegetables, cut in roughly 1 inch pieces, toss in the marinade and refrigerate for awhile.  Awhile?  Really?  I don't know.  Ask Stuart that one, too.
  4. Put vegetables on wood skewers you've soaked in water for at least an hour, or on the metal ones if you forgot to soak the wood ones last time and they kinda burned up.  Ah, we won't elaborate on that one.
  5. Grill on medium heat for 10-12 minutes, making sure to watch carefully and turn so all sides get nice charring on the surface ~ adds a great flavor!

That's it!  Easy because it's only finding, washing, cutting, and skewering some vegetables.  Fast because it grills in just 10 minutes.  Fun because you talked to multiple growers along the way, plus Stuart!

Add us to your weekend plans.  We're open Saturday and Sunday, 6:30am to 1:30 pm.

It's FUN!  It's Local!  It's what we're all about.

Music at the Market with Steve Sullivan and the Factory
Steve Sullivan is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist.
His music combines the Electric Blues of Muddy Waters and classic R&B - think Ray Charles -
to a blend of heartfelt Americana.

Steve Sullivan and the Factory
After years of crisscrossing the country, breaking hearts and fronting bands, the self-taught New Mexican guitar-slinger arrived in Minnesota. His band Steve Sullivan and the Factory is known in the Twin Cities for their energy-filled live shows.

Their latest studio releases - two full-length CDs titled I Did a Bad Thing and Love Is a Hit Parade - both hit the street on December 23, 2011.

Steve Sullivan was born in New Mexico in a wasteland railroad town on the dried up banks of the Rio Grande River. With the ghost of Billy The Kid hanging in the desert air, Sullivan started playing guitar, writing songs and recording at age twelve. To this day he has released five solo albums (available on iTunes). In 2010 he released the Steve Sullivan and the Factory debut, Last Night.

Market Flowers
So what can you do with these wonderful Gladiolas we
keep telling you about?

Galdiolas in a vase

Their height gives gladiolas a fun dimension so be creative!  Find a tall vase and add curly willow for interest.  Curly willow is an easy filler and it's a bit hard to see but the smaller vase here has it, too.

If you need more help than just a picture, here's a YouTube video on How to Arrange Gladiolus

Market Flowers is open Thursday and Friday 9am - 3pm, Saturday and Sunday 7am - 1pm
