Decanter World Wine Awards Global Tasting

Global Tasting Logo

This past summer, The Urban Grape was asked to become one of 30 world wide retail partners for Decanter Magazine's World Wine Awards Global Tasting. Naturally, we said yes.

Even more thrilling, UG was the only American retail partner profiled in the October issue of Decanter. It was a pinnacle moment for our young business.

While this is all well and good, what does it mean for you? It means that for the month of October we will be showcasing 16 of the 8,330 Decanter award winning wines in our Enomatic tasting machines. Each bottle will be offered at 10% off, or 20% off per case, for the entire month. Additionally, each Urban Grape customer will be given a promotional code that allows you to subscribe to the magazine for 50% off during October.

Of the 16 bottles being featured, some are old friends, while others are sure to become new favorites. All are delicious and were hand-picked by TJ because he felt our clientele would respond particularly well to them. We hope you'll stop by this month and give them a try!

All Our Best,

TJ and Hadley Douglas, and the staff of The Urban Grape

Urban Tastings

We can't thank you enough for the great turnout at all of our recent tastings and events! We've been opening some pretty funky bottles in an attempt to make it educational AND fun. Given your overwhelming response we will continue to do so.

Make sure to join us on Thursday and Friday nights from 5-8 and Saturdays from 2-5 for our regular tastings.

Sunday, October 23, 5-9 PM: Beyond Bubbie's Kitchen is back and better than ever. UG will be pairing kosher wine with each chef's creation and we will be on hand to talk about our pairings as well. This is an amazing annual event and we are so happy to be a part of it!

Saturday, October 29, 2-5 PM: Stop by and experience the line-up of Dogfish Head and Stone Brewing Company beers!

Sunday, October 30, 7-9 PM: It's Oyster night at UG! Join Island Creek Oysters and Erin Byers Murray as we celebrate the launch of her new book, Shucked. Tickets are available for purchase, and books are available that evening.

As always, check the events page on our website for event updates and newly added tastings!

Spotlight Wine: Washington Wine Sale!

washington wine

TJ is in Washington State this week having a crash course on all thing Washington wine related!

Here's a Washington wine fun fact that I did not know until recently (although TJ did, the showoff). Although we all think of the state as relatively cool and rainy, the wine growing regions are actually marvelously sunny and temperate! In fact, they average over 300 days a year of sunshine, with an average daytime growing season temperature of 78 degrees. Even more importantly, their Diurnal shift (the day to night temperature fluctuation that is so important for growing grapes that make tasty, well-balanced wine) is one of the most dramatic of any wine region in the world. All of this (and, frankly, a whole lot more) adds up to spectacular wines from a region that many people still have not explored.

Because TJ is going to come home with a fire in his belly for the region's outstanding wines, he wants to make some room on the shelf for the new producers he learns about while he's there.

That means discounts for you! From now until Thursday morning, we are offering ALL of our Washington State wines at a significant discount (okay, there is one we aren't discounting...the 2008 Royal City Syrah from K Vintners. We just got it in a few days ago and at 100 points-rated, it doesn't deserve to be on the discount shelf this week!).

15% Bottle Discount on any single bottle of Washington State wine

25% Case Discount on Mixed Cases of Washington State wine (100% of the case must be WA-produced)

Shop early for the best selection - discount applicable to in-house product only!

The Spotlight wine is available at this price until 11 PM, September 29. Respond to this email, stop by or call the store at 617.232.4831 to reserve your order.

jenner chard

2009 Jenner Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast, CA)

The cool climate grapes harvested for this aromatic Chardonnay are radiant with mandarin lemon rind and layered with papaya. There is a vanilla richness to this wine, but it opens up to a bright citrusy acidity.

Regular Price: $20

20% Bottle Discount: $16

ramey claret

2007 Ramey Claret (Napa, CA)

Rated 93 points by Wine Spectator, this Ramey red is almost Bordeaux-like in its subtlety and yet simultaneously delivers a richness of full-bodied cedar and currant flavors. This is a wine that will age well, at a fantastic price for any wine from the Ramey collection!

Regular Price: $40

20% Bottle Discount: $32
