Back to Life, Back to Reality

Summer has been good to us at The Urban Grape. We got some time off, drank some cool wine and recharged after a crazy year. Now, we're gearing up for the retail dash through the fall and holidays. And it all starts with a jam packed, back-to-school September calendar.

September event highlights are below, along with information about our end of season rosé sale and our October pop-up tastings. Welcome back to reality, everyone. We're here to soften the blow with the perfect glass of wine.

All Our Best,

TJ and Hadley Douglas, and the staff of The Urban Grape

Urban Tastings

Our weekly tastings are back in full force! All fall we'll have tastings with winemakers, our sales reps and even Beer Guy Noah. Many of our Saturday tastings will also feature locally made food! So, make sure to join us on Thursday and Friday nights from 5-8 and Saturdays from 2-5 for our regular tastings.

Below are a few event and tasting highlights for the upcoming month:

Sunday, September 11, 7-9 PM: Did you get shut out of our Pop-Up Tasting with Lineage Restaurant? Well, thanks to Hurricane Irene the event got postponed, and there are now some extra spots available. Call the store at 617.232.4831 if you want to join us for an evening dedicated to seasonal, local heirloom tomatoes!

Friday, September 16 and Tuesday, September 20: On the 16th, join winemaker Davide Sada from 5-8 PM as he pours his vibrant and affordable Tuscan wines at The Urban Grape. The Sada Vermentino has been winning rave reviews and inspiring devout followers all summer. On the 20th, join UG at La Morra in Brookline Village for a Sada wine dinner. Only the brilliance of Chef Josh Ziskin could make Sada's star burn even brighter! Call La Morra for details, 617.739.0007.

Saturday, September 17, 2-5 PM:  It's the first of Beer Guy Noah's fall beer tastings, starting with...let's all say it together now...pumpkin beer!

Sunday, September 18, 2-5 PM: Eyespot, our neighbors in the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center, are hosting a Porsche exhibition in the front parking lot. Start by looking at the fancy race cars, finish with a German beer and wine tasting at UG.

Wednesday, September 21, 5-8 PM: We are thrilled to host Morgan-leigh Norman, the daughter of PGA golfer Greg Norman, at the store for this very special tasting of Greg Norman wines. The highlight of this tasting is the 2001 Greg Norman Limestone Coast Reserve Shiraz - an elegant yet powerful wine that is a favorite of the Norman family. Morgan, a renowned chef and wine lover, will be tasting us on the family's high-end wines, sharing stories, and giving away some golf and wine themed goodies throughout the evening!

Saturday, September 24, 2-5 PM: Head to Europe via Chestnut Hill with the help of UG and Whole Foods Brighton. We'll be sampling cheese and wine from our favorite European nations - Spain, Italy and France!

As always, check the events page on our website for event updates and newly added tastings!

October Pop Up Tastings!

oysters

Our monthly pop up tastings are back and better than ever! Each month we feature a local
chef or food sensation - and pair said tasty food with interesting and out-of-the-box libation selections. We only take reservations for 30 people, and the spots go fast.

This October we'll be featuring two tastings. Details for both are still rolling in, but here are
some teasers for you. If you like what you see, call the store at 617.232.4831 ASAP to reserve your spots!

Sunday, October 2, 7-9 PM: Join BABYTRAIN barBARq for an Indian summer backyard
(well, parking lot) bash. We're still hashing out the menu, but let's just say we've reserved
some space for an outdoor smoker. And there's been talk of a whole pig going in that smoker. Imagine how good that will taste with our newest fall inventory. Excited? We are too. Cost is $15/person.

Sunday, October 30, 7-9 PM: Two years ago, local writer and editor Erin Murray ditched
her job at Daily Candy to spend a year raising and harvesting oysters at Island Creek Oysters
in Duxbury. She's written a highly-anticipated book, Shucked, that is being released this
October. Join Erin and her pals from Island Creek Oyster for a night of shucking, slurping and book signing. TJ will prove to us all that Oysters don't always need to be paired with white
wine and champagne. Cost is $15/person. Books may be purchased separately that evening.
